r _
Board of Assessors meeting Page
•
Planning Board - Minutes of Meeting of May (continued)
work on Cape cod even though wades are less than average , David
Bailey pointed out that real estate taxes in Mashpee are one
third that of affluent towns in suburban Boston - these towns
have added services that contribute to higher taxes . Leslie
Greig made comment that he will be anxious to see the results of
The Board ' s recent survey on Mashpee ' s ' probable large tax
increase in a few years .
Tax Bills
David Bailey informed The Board that Assessing has completed
all that is required to meet the July 1 issuance of tax bills.
The transfer was turned in last week; the tape was looked over
and approved; he needs to match Assessing ' s values with the
dollar amounts given - if all match, Assessing ' s job will be
completed.
i
FB Results
David Bailey informed The Board that the data just carne in -
he spent most of the day entering and testing the results and
speaking with the D.O.R. about the methodology used - all seems
fine. He checked sales used - all are valid. Chairman' Porter
asked if all had read the news article about Mashpee still being
considered an affluent town, He questioned why residents in the
residential and reserved areas of Mashpee were discounted before
home prices were divided - this makes it appear that Mashpee does
not' have low value homes .
David Bailey stated that things do tend to balance out;
however, he feels that Mashpee does get the short end of the
stick. Mashpee ' s per capita EQB has dropped by - from
$190 , 000 to $126, 0000, He does not know Prow this will match up to
the rest of the State . Mashpee is now on the upswing and may be
entitled to a two-year benefit. Leslie Greig was of the opinion
that increased state aid under- the education format would be a
blessing - property taxes alone will not carry the burden ! M
Chairman Porter expressed agreement, Discussion followed.
FB for Personal. Property
David Bailey informed The Board that he received back from
Town Counsel the approved AFB for personal property, He did
speak with the Town of Sandwich to cheek on availability before
he sends out the requests to bidders . Leslie Greig asked if he
checked with the Town of Barnstable . Mr. Bailey will do so.
