Board of Assessors Meeting Page
Minutes of The Meetin2 of September 6 , 1994 continued
Computers - Informational seminars (continued)
The Computer Committee and all who attended were a little
Leary of these negative reports, although the system itself i
was well accepted . The Committee decided to go to Town
Meeting and recommend purchasing some of the smaller
software applications , specifically the Town Clerk Package
and The Building Permit Package, have The Company install
these small software packages,, then take assessment of how
they perform. It was felt not much harm could be done in
these Departments . If these particular systems are accepted
as successful , then the Computer Committee will go to spring
Town Meeting and rake more recommendations , but certainly
not the $400 , 000 o tion.
Chairman Porter inquired if the $400, 000 price lea.g was
expected by those involved in the computer system selection.
David Dailey stated that they knew the price would be high
because it was truly a Wish Dist" . David Bailey informed that about one dozen new
PCs are included as well as some new printers. The Assessing
Department will probably receive one new PC but not a new
printer.
Leslie Greig inquired if the Selectman ' s office will receive
three new PCs . David Bailey explained that It will not receive
any because It utilizes all MacIntosh software; Its system is
Ma Intosh. The Fire Department, the DPW, the Selectman ' s
Department, and the Department of Leisure Services are all on
Ma Intosh systems which cannot utilize the present IBM PC
Software . The new package has the capability of interfacing
between MacInto5h Software and IDM Software.
Leslie Greig inquired if the schools will receive any new
PCs. • David Bailey informed that they will. not. , Lengthy
discussions followed. Mr. Bailey explained that a definite
decision has not been made as to which departments will receive
the new PCs , The Planning Department may receive -two because Its
