t� <br /> Board of Assessors meeting Page <br /> OLD BUSINESS : <br /> National Wildlife_ Refuge Agency ' s Open Meetina <br /> Chairman Porter recommended that The Board make note of this <br /> meeting being held at Mashpee Town Hall today and this evening. <br /> He is curious about the number of people who have attended. He <br /> expressed opinion that if there have not been many people , there <br /> may not be a lot of complainers out there the real concern <br /> of the Wildlife Agency. He asked for David Bailey ' s comments . <br /> David Bailey stated that he has been dropping into the <br /> meeting at various times ; there have not been many people. <br /> Leslie Greig informed that the only person. he knows who <br /> attended is Janice Walford. He expressed opinion that of <br /> i impor Lance is that there were no negative comments sent to this <br /> agency, and there seems t'o be no constructive group really <br /> opposing the agency ' s plans . He informed that Selectman George <br /> Costa is obtaining further claw- on this entire matter; a <br /> uniformed gentleman attending this meeting will be sending ' fir. <br /> Costa a list of other fish and wildlife refuges with results when <br /> the studies have been completed. <br /> [upon question from Chairman Porter , Mr . Greig informed. that <br /> the meeting hours are 9 : 00 a .m. to 9 : 00 p.m. Mr.. Porter made <br /> comment that the agency group is pleasant and certainly does know <br /> this area regarding the fishing and the quality of the water . . . <br /> the findings are "eye-opening" .' .'' 1a quoit Bay is in sad shape! .' <br /> Leslie Greig informed that a member of the agency group <br /> discussed the Sudbury River. Asians now fishing there obtain <br /> bushels of fish; the river appears' pristine to thea compared to <br /> where they were fishing ! ! Lengthy discussion followed. <br /> Mr . Greig expressed * opinion that it will be interesting to <br /> learn, after studies have been completed, what other towns and <br /> areas have done to maximize the establishment of the wildlife <br /> refuge. He strongly feels that Southape Beach should be <br /> maximized in this regard it would be a tremendous boon to <br /> Mashpee ! ! David Bailey rade comment that he has been so <br /> I a <br /> sidetracked by the economic issues that the environmental issues <br /> have taken a backseat in his mind; yet, he does remember 25 years <br /> ago when Wac uoit Bay was chock full of varieties of fish that are <br /> no longer there. Chairman Porter initiated lengthy discussion <br /> regarding scallops the bushels that Were brought back gears <br /> ago compared to the scant four bushels- 3ust this year. <br />
