David Bailey pointed out that I pl.ementati.on
of Title v should correct this problem. Mr . DeLory disagreed,
again stating there is simply too much water which washes away
much of the nutrients ! ! Mr, Bailey stated that this Wildlife
Agency will not undo anything that is already done; however, it
will stop the situation from getting worse.
Leslie Greig informed that the Merchant Marine and Fisheries
I committee is going to be combined under another environmental
program, and the chairman of this program and congressman Studds
get alany well ! ! All agreed this will be a plus . Lengthy
discussion followed.. Chairman Porter expressed opinion that it
is very sobering what this Wildlife Refuge Agency is
accomplishing throughout the world, although it will take many
years for wafter poll. ion to be overcome completely.
David Badley informed that it is amazing how this horrendous
situation has been turned around , once the source of pollution
was stopped, in many areas of vermmont the 12 years he resided
there, He has seen many r;iv6rs in Vermont transformed from cess
pools with the advent of the clean grater act and implementation
of sewage treatment plants . Lengthy discussion followed
concerning many well known rivers in Vermont, New Hampshire, and
Massachusetts that have been cleaned up once the now illegal
practices of the textile mills and other industries have been
stopped.
NEW BUSINESS:
Assessing Process for Subdivision Lots
Vice Chairman DeLory questioned if there is cu 'r•ently
phasing in the sing process in iashpee. He informed that
when he first became elected as an Possessor quite a few years
ago, he and another Board Member wound inspect subdivisions C►nd
assess the lots at whatever they were then selling for . They
were then confronted by owners of various subdivisions . At that
time , there was a petition to the state by ten voters in the 'down
of Sandwich . The State ' s opinion on the matter was that the lots
owned by developers must be assessed the same as homeowner ` lots -
there should be no differentiation .
