i
Board of Assessors Meeting Page Page
NEW BUSINESS:
Bearing on. Appeal for Abatement of Real Property axes
Abatement'Application #73 - Map 132, Parcel 9 , Unit 8016
Morton and Margaret Grealish,, Owners
Mrs . Margaret Grealish was present. Chairman Porter
informed Mrs . Grealish that all. Board Members and David Bailey
have inspected the property. Mars , Grealish asked when they were
at the property. Mr. Bailey replied that the inspection was
quite recent . . about two or three weeks ago. Mrs . Grealish
stated that at that time,. there was a very limited waterview
because the trees had no buds. The property sits back on a
cul de sac and has no oceanview; yet, her neighbors have full
ocean views of Martha ' s vineyard, the boats , etc. She complained
that her property is assessed at more than the next door property
which has this type of ocean view.
Vice chairman DeLory pointed out that the subject property
does have a view of the golf course. Mrs , Grealish stated that
it does, but there are three large homes being built at 'fide
Watch where her view Is only roof tops . . . not ocean. Mr.
DeLory stated that all of Mrs. real ish ' s neighbors just around
the corner do not have full ocean views . She disputed his
statement and pointed that the properties up to #8009 do have
views and pools; #8015 does have a complete waterview; even
Promi-tory Point ll has waterviews.
Chairman Porter initiated lengthy discussion . Mrs . Grealish
stated that she had been charged for a wool that did not exist.
Vice Chairman DeLory pointed out that something was covered up
during inspection. Mrs . Grealish stated that a pool is
restricted in that area because of the golf course . . . perhaps
a patio was being remodeled. She suggested that The Board
reinspect the area.
David Bailey asked Mrs . Grealish what she felt the prase
difference of her property should be in comparison to the
waterview properties. She replied that she did not ono , but
felt her assessment is unfair. Mr. DeLory asked if there have
been sales in the area. Mr, Bailey stated that #8014 sold in
1994 for $375 , 000. Mrs . Grealish pointed out that the sale
included all of the furniture the property has been sold
several times . • . it is a beauty. Mr. Bailey stated that It
was sold in 1986 for $385 , 000 ; in 1983 for $370 , 000; in 1993 for
$370 , 000 . Discussion followed.
