Board of Assessors Meeting Page 2 <br /> Mashpee workshop en (continued) <br /> Chairman Porter stated that David Bailey may prefer the <br /> commercial and industrial aspect for the direction of the Town. <br /> David Bailey expressed disagreement. He stated that he concurs <br /> the Town should follow the direction of a retirement area if It <br /> wants to pick up tax dollars . He pointed out that every house <br /> which is filled with retirees is one that does not contribute to <br /> mashpee ' s obligation of paying for an expensive new school . More <br /> discussion followed. <br /> i <br /> Leslie Greig expressed opinion that the Town needs to offer <br /> more to attract retirees * David Bailey expressed agreement. <br /> Chairman Porter pointed out that the Town still has the golf <br /> courses he feels this is a good angle for malas . <br /> perhaps o of all males do play golf today. M '. Greig pointed <br /> out that New Seabury Golf Course is much too exprensive. <br /> Chairman Porter pointed out that Quashne-t is reasonably priced, <br /> David Bailey expressed opinion the Town could use another golf <br /> course a municipal golf course. Leslie Greig expressed <br /> agre'er ent. <br /> Leslie Greig expressed opinion that the Town needs to <br /> provide much more parking for use of the State bark and for <br /> outhCape Beach. More discussion followed. <br /> David Bailey introduced the issue of Mashpee ' s ponds . He <br /> expressed opinion that they are underutilized resources. Leslie <br /> Greig stated that there is a lot of Town property in the ponds. <br /> Chairman Porter- asked if the ponds can be stocked. David Bailey <br /> informed that they are already stocked and pretty <br /> expensively . . . they offer some of the best trout fishing ire <br /> the Northeastboth the ponds and the rivers i iashpee <br /> offer some of the hest trout fishing in New England year round. <br /> Lengthy discussion followed. <br /> David Bailey explained that fishing is difficult for a <br /> senior citizen in Mashpee without a boat and no docks on any of <br /> the ponds . He would appreciate a dock built at the Town ramp so <br /> that a senior citizen could access it for fishing or for simply <br /> enjoying being near the water after parking his/her ear . He <br /> I expressed opinion that building a dock could solve a number of <br /> problems , as it is difficult to get a boat through the nearby <br /> waterways. <br /> I <br /> Leslie Greig pointed out that the Town needs to put some <br /> money up front to provide for these attractions . Mr. Bailey <br /> I stated there is very little money being made available in the <br /> I <br /> scheme of thing-s. Mr. Greig expressed agreement. <br /> I <br />
