Lots with modest houses
have not been affected that much because building values have
gore up; the percentage drop in lot value was washed out by most
of the larger hones built on the lots there. More discussion
f of Lowed.
Mr . Bailey explained that other than those few residential
areas that had some significant changes , there have been only
minor changes; Assessing has been on top of everything in this
regard.
Mr. Bailey expressed hope that Mr. Bob Trembley would have
something solid for Assessing by the end of the week on the
commercial data.
David Bailey informed that Ms. Sue Moynihan of the D. .R.
will be conning- to Assessing tomorrow. She has not done anything
on residential personal property. Assessing did a "mock" on
furnishings from catalogs. $15 , 000 was established for a
typical three bedroom home; ori a typical two bedroom
ondominium. We are right in the ballpark . • . we were using
and on these kinds of properties that Assessing depreciated.
Mr. Bailey pointed out that this is not what the D. .R. wants,
but he did not want to send out form of lists to 3 , 000 people . . .
this would be a waste of The Town ' s money.
David Bailey informed that the D. . * is discussing, as an
interim measure, issuing a suggested percentage for personal
property basically, It is saying that If municipalities use
this percentage, the D. .R. will not require documentation . Vice
Chairman Greig stated that he would have no problem with this
ruling . David Bailey expressed agreement and was of the opinion
that, ultimately, person ►l property tax will be discontinued . . .
there has been toe much "hoopla" about it. Discussion followed .
Vice Chairman Greig stated for The Record that "I think this
office - - and I give credit to David Bailey - - should have an
accolade for the money it has saved this Town. We could have
spent, since I 've been in office, close to one-half million
