+ Board of Assessors Meeting Page
New Ma2s for Assessing Department
Capon question from Chairman Greig, David Bailey
informed that Assessing needs new maps . He will send out
letter net week to all the departments that use maps , He feels
this is the year Assessing will officially request new maps,
although he has noted they have been sorely needed for several
years . Mr. Greig questioned if this is an item for the overlay.
Mr. Bailey explained that the request will have to be submitted
and get prioritized with everything else. Upon question from
Marcia King, fir. Bazley stated that the cost could be several
hundred thousand dollar's because it requires aerial photographs
a 0 * it is a big project! ! The present maps have been
dilgi.ti ed, but are not good to begin with. Lengthy discussion
followed.
David Bailey explained that the research for the
present maps were probably done in 1974 ; a flyover was done in
the winter with snow on the ground; the physical information was
not good to begin with, The legal information was probably the
best they had; since that time, a tremendous amount of
subdivisions and such have been planned and built; a lot of the
information was taken from old deeds , He also explained that the
Cape Cod Commission prepared maps in infra-red primarily as a
first phase of a wetland 'delineation; It was to prepare a
photogramatic survey along with it but never completed this phase
because more funds were requested but never- received. Mr. Bailey
stated that he will continue to work with the Corftmission so that
duplication is avoided.
fir# Balley informed that he first must figure out how
much money The Town is now spending on such items as topos for
roadwork and the like; also for developers buying topos compared
to what developers prepared themselves in past years . He does
not know if the new digital photography is any cheaper; he
suspects the labor is a lot easier when digital cameras are used.
Mr. Bailey informed that the Town of Brewster has just completed
a similar project and will send hire Its data . He does not
visualize completion this gear; the project requires much
research, Lengthy discussion followed.
Chairman Greig asked if the Board of Selectmen could be
of assistance in this matter. David Bailey informed that he must
first do some research in order to present a full package to the
Board of Selectmen find out hog much the Town is noir
spending meet with Tot Fudala to see if Planning can
maintain the reaps when they are finished. He feels they should
be maintained in-house; currently they are sent to a Dapper who
redraws them; it would be nice to have the maps updated on the
spot by the Planning Department ' s software system.
