ti Board of Assessors Meeting 'age Clause 22E Veterans Exemption continued that the Assessors rust make an independent determination of capability of work because the Legislature, by inserting the phrase "incapable of working" in Clause 22E,, established an independent statutory requirement for exemption. C harirman Greig expressed opinion that Ms. Collum may not have had to contact the D.O.R. if she had first searched deeper into the matter. David Bailey made comment that it did no harm to ask for it. Mr, Greig then ' noted the letter also states that submission of an Applicant ' s tax return may be required to verify there were no employment earnings. More discussion followed concerning previous D.o.i . correspondence and a more recent D.O.R. letter to Ms , Collum that Mr, Bailer views as a 11softening" on requirements for • I information. Mr. Greig requested a copy of that recent letter; he feels Ms. Collum should have submitted a copy to The Board. Chairman Greig expressed strong opinion that the only I sure wain The Board can find out if an Applicant has not earned wades from employment is to review the Applicant ' s income tam return. Board of Assessors Meetin2 Schedule David Bailey informed Board Members that he will not be able to attend the next regular Board Meeting scheduled for I e ternbe 24th. - He will be attending a seminar in Worcester on that date and will be learning Monday evening, September 23rd. He pointed out that there will be no urgent matters at that time for review and action by The Board; he expressed opinion this meeting could be cancelled, and the next meeting could be held on October 8th. short discussion followed. Chairman Greig and Vice Chairman Porter both agreed to cancel the September 24th meeting . Mr. Porter expressed opinion that next month' s regular meeting- schedule of October 8th and 22nd, and also a meet-in on October 1st, should be sufficient. David Bailey pointed out that Town Meeting begins on Monday evening , October 7th Town Meeting may possibly continue the next evening. Upon question from Chairman Greig, Mr, Bailey informed that the Recap data will . not be reader until the last ,reek of November; he is currently reviewing the residential sales I data . . . this should take another week or two to- complete. Be explained that the data signals ghat neighborhoods meed work, and he will discuss this data at length with Board Members .
