Board of Assessors Meeting Page <br /> Upcominq Meeting Legislative committee of Massachusetts <br /> Assessors Association David Bailey a .Member (continued) <br /> 'down of Mashpee. David Bailey explained that the impact on <br /> Mashpee will probably be minimal compared to sandwich where the <br /> power plant exists . , Mashpee Assessing may a affected; must <br /> e careful because all the lines running through 'down and the <br /> way they are assessed. This represents a great deal of money; <br /> Corn Electric ' s assessment is $4 to $5 Million . . . It is one of <br /> the largest taxpayers in Mashpee. [lice Chairman Porter rade <br /> comment that utility companies are the largest taxpayers in any <br /> town or city. <br /> David Badley explained this issue is of great concern <br /> to power producers because most of these companies will spin off <br /> their power- plants which will be bought primarily by large <br /> manufacturing corporations these are exempt from personal <br /> property tax, whereas power plants are personal property almost <br /> totally . Board Members discussed various power plants at length. <br /> David Bailey pointed out that even if the legislation we are <br /> promoting does pass , the value of the sandwich power plant will <br /> remain as such on the open market; in an unregulated market, <br /> nobody iwill want a nuclear plant the value will quickly <br /> become negative. <br /> Mr, Bailey informed that Assessor's are much more <br /> concerned with the manufacturing status and having it eliminated <br /> as a possibility . . . making sure none of the current taxation <br /> goes out by mistake {there are so many towns that are <br /> dependent on utilities . <br /> Public Information Presentation on what Assessing i- -- all <br /> _.. <br /> About - General Discussion <br /> Chairman Greig introduced the matter; he referred to <br /> information that cane from a seminar- Mr. Bailey recently <br /> attended. Mr. Greig recommended that The Board and David Bailey <br /> formulate a public information presentation, perhaps through <br /> newspapers and continental Cablevision . . . he would like Mr. <br /> Bailey to be the host. [upon question from Marcia ding, Mice <br /> Chairman Porter informed that he had attended that four-pant <br /> seminar and has a lot of information. David Bailey informed that <br /> he and chairman Greig recently had discussion about distributing <br /> public information, perhaps in the form of a brochure or mailer-. <br /> In regard to cablevision, he inquired if Leslie Greig ' s <br /> recommendation means producing a program or just having some info <br /> flashing on the screen. Mr. Greig rade comment he does not know <br /> what can be done. Lengthy dis usslon followed. <br />
