Board of Assessors Meeting Page
DIseussion on the Study, _ Committee of the DCPC Re2ardi2a
Water Pollution in Certain Areas of Mashpee
Chairman Greig requested Board Members to allow him to
continue to express his personal , positive, nonemotional opinions
on this matter unless they have other strong wishes. Vice
Chairman Porter expressed his approval ; he pointed out the
Committee is a good one. Lengthy discussion followed.
Marcia ding inquired if Assessing' s "official stamp of
approval" is being sought; Leslie Greig stated that he does not
know . . . he knows only that a member of most Town Departments
has been appointed. David Bailey informed that he has not been
asked to attend each meeting. Chairman Greig informed that he
and Mr. Porter and Mr. Bailey did attend the initial meeting.
David Bailey pointed out that his understanding is if
the matter is voted in at Town Meeting, thea the Cape Cod
Commission is asked to come up with various regulations that
will apply to the specific area involved in Mashpee. He inquired
if the Cape Cod Commission then comes back to the Town to approve
these regulations . Chairman Greig explained that at the first
public hearing, the attorney for the Commission made statements
that diametrically oppose those of Tom Fudala and the woman
representative . He believes that the Town has an opportunity to
come up with the regulations , but it sloes interpose another
section of government controlling this issue; he does not feel
there is enough knowledge of what will occur. Mr. Greig pointed
out that he did a study from the reap and feels it is fairly
accurate; he arrived at an assessed value of property of
$4941350 , 864 that is a lot of property in Mashpee to be
affected.' !
David Bailey informed there was talk -that if this issue
is approved, then all properties within that area would have to
have denitrifying septic systems. He asked if this is a foregone
conclusion. Leslie Greig expressed opinion that it is ; however,
he pointed out that the problem is the denitrifying septic
systems are not that good they are not Oat they are
supposed to be the Commission ' s own statement 0 4b even
if every system is retrofitted and all the new ones had to have
denitrifying improvements. Both Mr.- Bailey and Mr . Porter stated
they had read the oauni.s s ion ' s statement.
Chairman Greig pointed out that he does not know if
this Petition Article is binding upon the Board of Selectmen; it
states to instruct the Selectmen to apply to the Cape Cod
Commission they may not have to they could hold off .
