Board of Assessors Meeting Page
Discussion on the Study Committee of the D PC Regarding
Water Pollution in Certain Areas of Abash ee
Marcia ding expressed opinion that the selectmen do not have t
apply . • . the Art1 le is too binding they could hold off
until October Town Meeting. Mr. Bailey expressed agreement .
he pointed out that no timeframe is designated.
Marcia King asked if the aim of this Committee is to
decide whether to recommend the regulations set forth by the
D PC. Leslie Greig explaianed that the Committee was supposed
to come up with recommendations before Town Meeting as to whether
we should endorse the regulations set forth by the DCPC or not,
He again stated strongly that he feels it is impossible to
recommend one way or another in just two meetings because the
matter is too complex. Again, his only recommendation is that
the Committee meet every two weeks until October . . . by then,
it should have some good recommendations . He pointed out that
the local Board of Health can implement a lot of things just
though public hearings . Marcia sting expressed agreement .
Chairman Greig pointed out a major problem the
unknown cost of retrofitting the septic systems . . . some say
$5 , 000 some say $15 , 000 . David Bailey expressed opinion
that if thisrouJy[+./, of regulations is voted in and implemented in
the near future, then basically the people in the area involved
will be penalized for something that eventually will have to be
done to the whole town. If the result is a sewage treatment
system, then this is the direction that should be looked into for
the whole Town instead of of the Town spending millions of
dollars combined for something that does not solve the problem.
Chairman Greig pointed out another problem; he strongly
voiced his objection to the Towns of Barnstable and Sandwich
being on the same parity vote with Mashpee. The amount that is
I affected in these two towns is "peanuts" ; he objects to these
towns or even the Cape Cool Commission dictating how Mashpee will
have to spend its tax dollars . Marcia King expressed opinion
this will be a huge issue at Town Meeting. David Bailey
expressed feeling that the combined cost is probably approaching
sewage treatment system for the highly affected areas , Mr. Greig
pointed out that there have been no studies, Ms , sting stated she
does not know enough about this entire ratter and would have to
vote no if she were required to do so at present, Mr. Greig
and Mr. Bailey expressed agreement. i
Chairman Greig pointed out that he sees no action being
taken to find out the cost nor the basic problem of where the
I
I
i
