4
Capital Improvement Program Committee
Minutes
November 1 ,2008
Assessina Department:
Jason Streeb 1, Director of Assessing was before the Con nittee to discuss
the need of his department for a vehicle for daily data collcction duties
and general assessing f mctions. Currently, the Assessing Department
uses a 2000 model Jeep Cherokee. A maintenance log of mileage and
automobile expenses was included in the CIP submission. Approximately
1200 per year is being expended for vehicle operating costs related to
maintenance and repair. Although the vehicle has low mileage, 35,252 in
mid-September,there is considerable wear and "tough miles"with the
repeated stop and go driving. 1t was noted the engrne light is always on.
The condition may be related to the gas cap.
Mr. Streebel indicated that a small-pick-up truer(without VV-D would be
suable for the Assessing Department. With a trade-in, it is estimated
new vehicle would cost approximately$5,000 less than the projected CIP
appropriation of$25,000 for a replacement vehicle.
Mr. Streebel stated that he is looking towards the future to anticipate the
needs of the Assessing Department.
Building D arnent:
Richard Stevens, Building Commissioner discussed replacing ars existing
thirteen year old vehicle, a 1995 Fordxpl orer; mileage 123,000 with a
smaller, and more fuel efficient vehicle to accommodate the needs of the
Budding Department.
The present vehicle, deemed with`hard"mileage is the former Fire
Chief's vehicle. The maintenance performed on the vehicle is
approximately $680. The vehicle is scheduled for additional repairs this
week. Mr. Stevens presented information to the CIP for the purchase of
' 2008 )WD Ford Ranger in the amount of$19,075. The initial capital
request for appropriation is $25,000. Mr. Stevens indicated that planning
for the future should include retirement and replacement of this vehicle.
