AARP Driver ming A program has been scheduled for May 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. <br /> Attendance at this program can help seniors reduce insurance expense. <br /> OUTREACH COORDINATOR'S REPORT: <br /> Hoare Visft. Apintnwnt ;'Thirty-three were made this past month, in addition to client contact <br /> by phone call. Lynne met with several seniors who were socially isolated, due to disability, <br /> difficulty leaving home, no longer driving,etc. Lynne was able to place friendly visitors,tele <br /> friend volunteers, and/or the library delivery volunteer. Lynne met with several caregivers <br /> struggling with the care of a loved one with dementia. Lynne did a target mailing to some of <br /> these caregivers,to invite them to an up coMM9 stress relief workshop for the well spouse. Two <br /> of the seniors she.met with are concerned about their adult children who are experiencing <br /> financial and rental.health problems,and the irnpact it is having on their children. Lynne <br /> referred them to counseling mid local grandparents' support groups. Lynne is meeting weekly <br /> with the'Town's public health nurse Kathy Ganey to prefer clients to her and to work together to <br /> help the clients meet specific goals. Since February(when their collaboration began), Lynne has <br /> referred fourteen seniors to Kathy. Kathy has done an excellent fob. <br /> Volunteers:Lynne continues to meet monthly with the tele friend, SATE, friendly visitor <br /> assistant,and grief support volunteers to provide supervision and to assign clients. <br /> Mee# r Ca ate:Lynne met with Jackie Powers, social worker,Beacon Hospice,to-finalize <br /> details of the,journal writing program she is conducting beg" �g n June. This program will <br /> assist seniors who are having difficulty coping with loss of any find, such as loss of a job, <br /> friendship, pet, hone, relationship, etc. Lynne net with social worker Lia Malcolm regarding <br /> both the decluttering workshops and series on positive mental health that.f had asked her to <br /> conduct for us. Approximately twenty-five seniors attended the first session of the decluttefing <br /> workshop,and the feedback was very positive. Lynne met with Nancy Karlson-Ledrnan of <br /> Comfort Keepers to review our program and services. Lynne attended the monthly meeting of <br /> the Cape Cod Consortium.. <br /> VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT REPORT (submitted by Judith Lenge) . <br /> Volunteer e rrs :It's that time of year again. I have been updating our volunteer fist and <br /> have found that this ym we have fewer volunteers by about 10 percent. Not sure whether this is <br /> about the state of the economy or some other reason. It looks like we will have a brunch here <br /> thisy ear with David Stevens, Executive Director of the Mass. Council on Aging. The event will <br /> take place on Thursday,May 2 1 ,and I hope to have Chef Roland cater it again. I hope you will <br /> be available to greet guests as you have done in the past. <br /> r t rgenerationa : Jinn and f met with representatives from the Boys and Girls Club and <br /> Community Leadership Institute about the baking project that CII students are planning. The <br /> program is set for our kitchen on Friday afternoons in May(511, 5/8, 5/15, 5122). we are looking <br /> for 8 to 10 volunteers who would be willing to attend. The CLI students will be looking for <br /> sponsors to provide supplies for each week. Our Mashpee Singing Seniors were invited to sing <br /> with Quashnet School 5hand 6th graders at their celebration of"Music in Our Schools Month." <br />
