3 <br /> Community Preservation Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> June 6,2006 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Victon"a' Goldsmith-Habitat for Humanity: <br /> Victoria Goldsmith was unable to attend the meeting. Sue Daggett, <br /> Director of Resource Development was in attendance with Ion Dickinson, <br /> Director of Land Acquisition to discuss the Habitat for Humanity proposal <br /> with members of the CPC Committee. <br /> •Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has submitted a.funding proposal for <br /> to affordable hones on Torn-donated lots on Quashnet Road and Cotuit <br /> Road, Ma hpee. To date,the Habitat has built 10 affordable homes fn the <br /> Town of Mashpee. <br /> 1t was noted one of the homes would mark the 'home which would <br /> provide a great Ileal of visibility and cause for celebration. <br /> Mr. Dickinson discussed the Town Meeting article approved in May of <br /> 2005 to commit two Town owned parcels for use as affordable housing <br /> and Habitat's proposal accepted by the Selectmen in response to the � <br /> Request For Proposal (RFP)as the developer and contractor of record t <br /> build the two homes. <br /> The sum of$40,000 is requested to build the hones on 562 Cotuit Road, a <br /> ranch style home and 59 Quashnet Road, a I 1/ story Cape style home. 1t <br /> was noted that all hones are deed restricted in perpetuity. <br /> Discussion followed nth respect to the application process. It was note <br /> that announcements are given to the school system,the local newspapers <br /> and via the radio to solicit interested parties to complete an in-depth <br /> application. A credit check is thea conducted. The potential families are <br /> 4 then interviewed to assess the real need for improved housing. The <br /> applications are then placed into a lottery. It was noted that an applicant <br /> must contribute 250 fours of"sweat equity" before they are able to move <br /> into their new Habitat home. F <br /> As required by DHCD, 70%of the units are limited to the residents of the <br /> town, One f the houses would therefore by reserved for a 1 lashpee <br /> resident. Twenty-eight applications have been received for the to <br /> homes. It was noted that a large amount of the applications come from the <br /> respective ton so the odds are greater that a home would be awarded to a <br /> resident or to an employee of the tow.. <br />
