PRESERVATION
QUESTIONS
QUESTIONS YOU MAY HEAR -
QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE
6. Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE WANTS INFORMATION FROM A
BOOK WHICH IS BEING RESTORED?
• A. Information can be given to you over the phone, or a photocopy of the
information may be mailed or faxed to your office.
7. Q. HOW LONG WILL BOOKS LAST AFTER RESTORATION?
A. Unlike museum restoration, where items are placed under glass and not
touched, restored permanent records are reintroduced into daily use. That is why
records are restored in strict accordance with the highest standards in materials,
methods and workmanship. With reasonable maintenance and care, we estimate
that restored records which have been deacidified can perform for upwards of two
or three centuries before they will need additional treatment.
8. Q. ARE THERE OTHER ADVANTAGES TO RECORDS RESTORATION?
A. Yes. Records managers who begin a restoration program can be proud that
they have taken the most important step possible to preserve the written history
of the communities they serve, making this unique information available to future
generations.
•
