PROCESS DESCRIPTIONS <br /> DISBINDING & MENDING • carefully disbind by hand. <br /> • surface clean with light brush and <br /> appropriate process. <br /> • tape removal as required. <br /> •tears and weak areas repaired. <br /> • fold of the page reinforced as necessary. <br /> • <br /> DEACIDIFICATION • aqueous treatment with magnesium bicarbonate <br /> solution for ancient books written in non soluble <br /> iron gall inks. <br /> • "dry" Bookkeeper®process for fountain pen,ball <br /> point, and other fugitive and soluble inks, usually <br /> late 19th and 20th century. <br /> ENCAPSULATION • After deacidification and other repairs, brittle <br /> sheets are placed into custom made archival quality <br /> Melinex 5168 or equivalent capsules which are <br /> punched for insertion into permanent record loose <br /> leaf binders. Process will yield two volumes for <br /> books with more than 175 sheets (350 pages). <br /> BINDING • Volumes hand sewn on book looms with linen <br /> thread and tapes into flat opening register <br /> bindings. <br /> • • Covers to be bound in genuine full Russia deep <br /> rich red leather with regular hubs and hand gold <br /> tooling. <br />
