4
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
September 28, 2015
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Cape Light Compact Presentation:
The Smart Grid program includes grid modernization, wind farms, photovoltaics, hydrogen storage
and other options to reduce the effect of outages and optimize demand.
The Board of Selectmen were requested to provide feedback and conduct a brief regarding the Cape
Light Compact programs at their website; www,cal2elightcompact.orpLeeplan.
It was noted the program is very efficient, and under-used. The average savings per homeowner is
dependent upon the household. The Board asked if the Mashpee Housing Authority has taken
advantage of the program. This would be an option to update the aging complex, and an opportunity
for taxpayer savings while making the residents more comfortable.
Ms. Downey indicated the new Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council building won an energy
efficiency award and will be recognized at a dinner next month.
Update on Grace Veterans Center Presenters: James Dishner, General USAF Ret and Greg wilt
Major USMC Rett
Bill Blaisdell, volunteer for Grace Veterans Center, and a Mashpee resident and ZBA member
introduced General Jaines Dishner of the Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach program. General
Dishner discussed the attributes of the Mashpee Veterans Center graciously donated by Grace Family
in 2012. General Dislurer also commented favorably on the tireless efforts and countless hours
donated by Selectman Tom O'Hara who was deemed indicative of the Town of Mashpee, and to those
who have given the veterans, both men and women an opportunity to have a building.
General Dishner indicated the Hyannis location at 569 Main St is the main office of the Cape & Islands
Veterans Outreach program founded in 1983 by the NamVets Association of the Cape & Islands.
Since the conception of the Grace Veterans Center and acquisition in 2012, a leak was detected in the
furnace which caused considerable water damage and delayed occupancy in the lower area of the
building,
The Grace Veterans Center is located in a peaceful and quiet setting. Attendance has been limited,
staggered and selective based on the needs of the veterans who visit the center. It was noted there is a
good working relationship with New Seabury and the center is very appreciative of Mashpee and their
leadership. It was noted the Cape Cod Children's Museum is also supportive, offering ample parking
for overflow use. A van has been secured and is used for shuttling purposes if it is required.
