Conservation Commission
. February 18, 139
Page 10.
servation Comnassion with information, some soil testing, or to indicate whether or
not the creosote was leaching. When we met an January 21st, in this office, I believe
you were here too, John, weren't you. Mr. Slavinsky stated he was. Mr. Sherman stated
he indicated that we would entertain the consideration of that; we are not obligated to
consider it, but would entertain the consideration of such testing if we were provided
information by the testing company. Some of that information has been provided, she
sent me a list of compounds they would test for, which we find acceptable. They have
not sent ane any information which I requested at that time on the 21st and when I spoke
to the lady at Clean Harbors about their testing procedures, how they are going to do
the sampling and so forth. We have not received that yet. I should make it clear that
in terms of whether or not that testing goes forth, it is mentioned here in the Notice
of Intent but it is your request to have the testing clone, it was not our request. We
will consider any testing that is done if we approve the second half of it, the way it
is done but we haven't received any information on that. But we are under no obligation
to base our decision on the results of that testing.
Mr. Cardillo asked if that will be a decision of the Board or Mr. Sherman's decision?
Mr. Sherman stated none of these things are his decision. They have directed me to
coordinate with the, uh, as I have in the past.
. Cardillo stated the way she explained it to hien on the phone was, John proposed
11 test sites, it's on this plan here, around where the ties are. When I spoke to her
on the phone, she said that you would . , .they would go down, or send the chemist down,
and he would take a few inches of dirt from these different sites, put them in a pail
all together and that is how they would do the test.
Mr. Sherman stated that is what he means. We need that in writing from them, how they
are going to do the test. As we said, I'll reiterate the point, we will consider and
examine those test results if we approve both the compounds tested for and the testing
methodology. I arra telling you now that we do approve the compounds tested for but we
have not yet received any information on methodology. Test results might not be con-
clusive in cold water; I meed something i
