April 19, 1990 ,
Page 10.
shellfish warden and also a fulltime conservation agent and
if hired by the town should obviously be objective .
His last point is that he had a pier out in front of the
house years ago with the boat coming in and out. It
destroyed the quahogs. He dug quahogs out there since he was
yrs. old . The rotor destroyed the shellfish . His father,
who is 80 years old, has a boat on a mooring and he gets out
to the boat by rowing. They could have a pier there ,
however, environmentally things have changed. There are a
lot of houses, water skiiers, boaters and a lot of activity
on that bay. In closing, he hoped what the commission
decided would be correct for the bay.
Mr. Bradshaw stated they own a Boston Whaler they are going
to be putting in there. As far as protecting the
environment, they are going to be taking a 15#1 ft, boat in
and out in a direct path and they believe they are going t
cause more damage taking the boat in and out, turning up and
down coming in. If they had a plea in there , in one spot
where they come in to that one spot 45 ft. out - every time it
would be better.
Ms Behrman asked if they would follow the same path every
time's
Mr. Bradshaw stated it would be right to the right of the
marsh where there is a little path they wore out where. they
o into the boat.
Mr. Boyd stated with the positioning of the dock now, they
will not be coning in over the clan flats .
Mr. Burgmann stated by denying the the dock, it will not
preclude the boat coming in and out from the front of the
property, it will be brought into even shallower water. it
will be causing more disruption and impact on the bottom by
saying they can ' t have a fixed point to bring the boat t
where they can access it easily and keep the boat so it is
not going to have to be drawn up on the shore . The ability
to tell thea that they cannot have a boat, that they cannot
bring it ashore isn ' t a question before the board.
Ms Behrman stated that is understood .
Mr, Bradshaw stated in addation, one can shellfish underneath
the pier because the pilings are spaced so far apart and
there is no floating dock, just a deck, but you can go
underneath it and he thinks the clamshells landing on top of
the deck may get pushed off .
I-As Behrman pointed out 3 . 5 above MLVI plus . 7 is 4 feet and
one would have to have a very long rake to get under the
middle of this .
