Conservation Commission <br /> May 17, 1990 <br /> Page 3. <br /> : 1 - Richard Halpern left the meeting. <br /> 8:15 NEW SEABURY GOLF COURSE -- LILLY PND: Brian Ze-ppenfeld presented abutter <br /> receipts, He. advised there is a pipe put in from the Lilly Pond to Nantucket <br /> et <br /> Sound In an area where beach nourishment is on-going. <br /> Analysis of the waters of the pond shored it is equivalent to drinking grater. <br /> They are proposing to put in an automatic sump pump. They would like to keep <br /> within a foot of it's normal level . An elbow would shoot the water up into <br /> the air, dissipating the energy, with stone beneath. <br /> A letter was read into the record from MBL, Christine Gault of WB RR asked to <br /> be apprised of1the whole project. The initial test performed was looked at by <br /> WB RR; no herbicides or pesticides were detected, nitrogen levels were tolerable. <br /> The erosion aspects can be addressed, <br /> Nor. Zeppenfeld. gave copies of a newspaper article re golf course fertilizers <br /> being found safe, Ms Beh rman pointed out that was looking at ground water, <br /> not surface water, discharge. <br /> Mr. Zeppenfeld referred to a letter from Aubrey Consulting stating it is rain <br /> runoff with little or no contamineats. Everything will be done by hand. Some <br /> pipe will be added and put In beach sand where there is no growth. <br /> Mr, Coffey asked how much is existing and how much replaced. Mr. Zeppenfeld <br /> advised the existing pipe i " and will continue 611 throughout, 10 feet will <br /> be added. <br /> 1r. Sherman advised a discharge permit is not needed* <br /> 1r, Zepp stated the pond has existed this way; if they were to stop, this <br /> would be a- change in habitat. <br /> Mr. Sherman agreed it might be better to stay within a narrow parameter of <br /> fluctuation. <br /> Robert Gray who was present- for another hearing was asked for ars opinion and he <br /> stated he -would rather look at the site first. <br /> Mrs. Terry asked if the golf course ponds were man made and Mr. Zeppe,nfeld did <br /> not know. They nearer dry up; it is above sea level at 3.91 . <br /> Mrs. Terry stated if they do not drain it out, they will lose their golf course. <br /> Mr. York questioned whether water samples were representative of what goes on <br /> over the entire year. <br /> a <br /> . Zeppenfeld stated fertilization is very controlled. He will provide rates, <br /> dates, patterns, chemical names and where put down. � <br /> Mrs. Simmons asked if they would be willing to have it in the Order of Conditions <br /> that there will be testing done in a certain runner each year. <br /> Mr. Zeppenfeld again referred to the newspapers article and was told that it only <br /> refers t fertilizers, not pesticides. <br />
