Conservation Commission
November 15, 1990
Page 6.
Mr. Maguire advised the one at Quinaquisset Corner will be good for the 100 year
storm. The volume can be changed by' raising or lowering the equalizer pipe.
Mr, Coffey stated there is a paved waterway. to the southerly side of Mashpee River
that has been responsible for u to a bit of sedimentation heading towards the
river due to utilities put in the area.
Mr. Maguire stated that waterway will be eliminated, the surface water will be
put underground into pipes. They will put in catch basins with underground pipes
and a trunk line. They will install a berm to el ate any direct discharge near
the Mashpee River. All the paved waterways will be elm'udnated. Work is planned
to start in the fall. The town warts the work done and had planned to do it under
-Chapter 90 money which has dried up. The DPW Director, Mr. Virgilio, approached
the State •J.
Mr. Coffey asked if haybales or filter fabric was planned and was told they wrote
the book on it.
Concerning the name of a contact person, they advised it will be Gilliam Dalton,
District Constr-uction Engineer, who can be reached at 947-9000.
Mr. Coffey asked if the 6 foot chain link fence is accessary or 1f there 'is an'
alternative.
Mr. Maguire stated it is as retention will hold same depth of water at certain
times. All reasonable precautions must be taken and they do not want to b
creating an attractive nuisance,
Ms Behan suggested dolly trees be planted which will grow to hide the fence.
Mr. Sherman asked if the engineers could take a look at the Quaker Run area and
write the Commission with recommendations regarding the culvert.
Mr. Maguire agreed to set a date prior to leaving to meet at the site.
When asked what vegetation will be removed at the Quinaquisset area, it was stated
they will leave as many of the large trees as is possible. They have to go in with
construction machinery in order to put the large stone along the slope., They will
brush it all out, loam the bottom portion and seed with hardy rye. The porocity of
the soil is'very high, the only thing to slow water down from leaching out is the
water table itself. If it 1 s going to be wet from the runoff for a larger portion
of the year than they anticipate, it -will naturally progress into more wetland species
of vegetation.
There were no comments from the public.
C 1 DUM To NOVEMBER 29, 1990 - 6:45 p,m,
9:00 MARY SCANLAN FOR THE REPAIR OF AN EXISTING 14 Wit.
