Mashpee Conservation Commission <br /> Minutes of october 12# 1983 Page <br /> Executive Secreta re: Bog Management Committee, cont. <br /> Mrs, So .tis asked if they were looking towards the Recreation Department <br /> handling the everyday management of the beach area. Chairperson Studley <br /> replied "Yes". Mrs. Jacobsen said that it would be something discussed <br /> as a croup. Joe said that was why he thought it important for a hearing <br /> of some sort to be held and following the hearing the bog management com- <br /> mittee could make some recommendations the conservation commission. <br /> He said that as f ar as the management agreement that the town and common- <br /> wealth have executed, there is a responsibility to get public input as <br /> much as possible. <br /> har le commented that 1 a public hearing were held, would you make a <br /> statement and ask the people ±f they differ from what is being thought <br /> or would you ask the people to tell you, <br /> Mr. Martiros said that we should define what the town is interested in for <br /> services and thea listen for the input, Chairperson Studley said that it <br /> -would be better for the committee to get together to see what help they <br /> can get from different agencies. <br /> Mrs. Soltis asked if there was clear access to the beach area. Charlie <br /> commented that there was Back Road which is open for town use. Joe <br /> commented that there were a number of ancient ways. Mr. Martiros said <br /> that if it were to be run specif i ally as a beach, you would have to cut <br /> off accesses Brom the back ways. Joe said that there should be gates at <br /> all entrances to the property. <br /> In terms of the Recreation budget, Mrs,. Soltis stated that no monies were <br /> available. <br /> Mr. Martiros asked if there has to be a lifeguard on a pond Joe replied <br /> "noel, For example, he mentioned that the State does not have one on South <br /> Cape Beach. He said that it is not an approved beach and. that Mashpee does <br /> not have approved beaches to the extent that they provide the services that <br /> the Dept, of Board of Health rewires. He said that it has been the town' <br /> practice in the past that when lifeguards- are not on duty at a beach, that <br /> the beaches be posted strictly for liability., <br /> The Executive Secretary urged the management committee to meet as soon as <br /> possible. Mrs. Jacobsen said that she thinks it is important to meet very <br /> soon to get started. A date of Tuesday, October 18 , at 3 :00 pom. was set <br /> for the first meeting. <br /> _ w OEM <br /> Mr. Donald Priestly, 630 Gleneagle Drive, met with the Commission stating <br /> that Bill Warwick had told him of the Board' s concern of what was taken <br /> out in the way of vegetation. He explained that they took out snags and <br /> cedar trees and they would replant with indigenous material for the area. <br /> Charlie commented that he knew the area and the bushes in the area and <br /> growth all contributed to a duck resting area -Mr. Priestly said that he <br /> was thinking of planting blueberry bushes and perhaps putting up some bird- <br /> houses* <br /> ird- <br /> houses. Discussion was made on the rip rap wall and that he would be buy- <br /> ing an abutting piece of .land from New Seabury and would be continuing the <br /> wall. Mro Priestly asked for suggestions of plants that the commission <br /> would like to see. Wayne suggested Phragm ite , viburnumi, aronia and clethea. <br /> Charlie said that he would be happy as long as the area is revegetate . <br />
