Minutes of conservation commission Page
January 41 198
Peter Erce2 Nirenberg 7 8 :30 P.M. Hearing
Mr. joy of Coastal Engineering Company, Orleans, was present to represent
the applicant in a proposal to construct share front protection for Lot
99 'triton Way along Succonnesset Point.
Mr. Joy familiarized the Board with the three lots which have unprotected
frontage. He told the members that Peter Brceg has a purchase and sale
agreement with Charles Nirenberg for Lot 526. He is raking application
for a sea wall on New Seabury property fronting 524, 525 and 526 with the
consent of Doctor ckten and Harold Cohen. Mro Joy pointed out a massive
concrete sea wall on property in the area belonging to cberto' s. He also
pointed out a rubble structure which looked like it protected an old wall
at one time. Further on down, he pointed out a shelf with extensive rack
revetment work.
Mr. Joy said that in the Notice of Intent he indicated that they would be
constructing the wall at the toe of a coastal bank with the idea of pre-
venting continual erosion at the toe of the bank.
At this point, Nor. idy presented photographs of the area and gave a sum-
mary of each. A set of prints was given to the Commission for the files.
Mr. Joy said that his engineering firm has constructed a lot of this type
wall on various warts of the Cape, He sowed the Board a picture of the
wall constructed at Indian Neck, Wel if lee t.
` r,. Joy asked whir they would want to put a wall of this type on this type
of shorelines He said the idea is to stop erosion at the toe of the slope
which takestakc.:-is places mostly y ori wind blown spring tides probably 20 or 30
tides a year) . He said that this particular type of wall i 'excavated t
point of a minimum of three feet below the existing cobble beach. The
wall, which is vertical, has a zig zag -effect to it. He said that is a
very strong wall because it is a folded plate.
Jean Thomas asked how far below do the footings go fir. Joy said that the
bottom of the footing is approximately three feet below the beach.
Mr, Joy said that the structural design computations which they have run on
the wall are based on the fact in the worst situation where the gall is fully
inundated by water they back f ill and the toe is exposed. He said that in
one particular appeal they have run all sorts of computations for- DEQ " on
this type of a wail for those type of conditions.
Mr. Joy said that the title search elevation along the coast is elevation
eleven, which is the 100-year elevation. The 50-year elevation is 9.0 and
the 10-year elevation is 5.4. He said with the 100-year event, there would
be storm surge elevation overtopping the wall.. The wall is the type which
will take o erwatch. He said that when the water overtops bulkheads, they
