t
Mashpee conservation Commission
meeting ng of July 17, 1986
Page B.
John 0,, Harris , Continued:
Carol Jacobson stated this particular area of Johns Pond was dredged out
some years ago. It is particularly fragile , full of weeds and daring rap-
idly. It was never a part of the pond.
In answer to Ms Behrman's question , Mr. Bergman stated they do not have
Board of Health permits .
TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT.
John 0. Harri s , Lot B James Ci rcl e. Holmes & McGrath - Agent. Mr. Ber man
presenting. This lot is one lot away from the prior lot and similar with the
exception that a retaining wall is not needed. Minor regrading is proposed to
level off the parking area and the same type of protection will be provided with
v a leaching catch basin in the level area of the parking space. It will be graded
so that water corning down the driveway will not leave the parking area but will
go into that basin. The steepness of the driveway would necessitate the paving
with asphalt. The proximity of the deck is 35 feet from the wetland and the
paring area is 25 feet to the edge.
Mr. Bergman was not sure of the Board of Health filing on this also.
John Vary onda questioned the leach basin on the pond side and with the clearing,
what will happen to the bark with no protection in a possible blow out of the
leaching pit. He suggested modifying the paring area to retain some of the
vegetation.
Mr. Bergman stated revegetation with ground cover would begin immediately, after
construction.
Ms. Behrrnan question the grade changing on the right side of the house and the
gully effect created. Mr. Bergman stated the intention is to modify the grade
so that the water going down hill will carry past the house. The height of the
retaining wall has not been set. It is necessary that the water does not cir-
culate around the retaining wall , the height of the top of the wall can be set
level with the bottom of the upper~ slope and the water go over the top ofthe
wall .
Ms Beh inn stated with an 8 foot drop from the top of the retaining wall t
the driveway, a waterfall would be created.
Carol Jacobson stated the same comment applies to this lot as to the other
lot that this is a particularly fragile area.
Mr. Bergman stated the low point to be the catch basin in the parking area.
Mr. Rosenberg pointed out that the elevation of the basin i s 47. 5 on the plan
and the lower end, water side, of the parking lot is no more than 47.5.
Mr. Bergman stated the elevation can be dropped slightly to insure that is
the low spot. Mr. Rosenberg stated his concern that the water i s much larger
than shown as the 46 foot contour touches the corner of the parking.
. Bergman agreed the parking area grading should be revised to insure the
catch basin is the low spot.
