Conservation ormi ss i ori
Meets ng of August 7, 1986
Page 3+
Fox Run - continued:
Concerning a question -of the 80 acres of open space, Mr. Donnelly stated they
will consist of a large block for a well , ars area under the power lines and
another larger block .beyond the edge of the golf course.
Question was raised concerning the creation of a holding pond within the pond
system for irrigation, etc. her. Donnelly stated the Fire Department wants the
water available for the Club douse and anything closer to the bogs would be i
conflict with the maintenance of the cranberry bogs.
Nor. VanTol questioned the two cul de Sacs shown and suggested petitioning the
Planning Board to put in a common driveway on the lower one, rather than the
expense for a cul de sac. Mr. Donnelly advised the cul de Sac is to avoid the
need to ask for variances or waivers. If this is a concern of the Commission
it can be brought up with the Planning Board. It may be possible to leave. the
Cul de Sao on paper for by-law requirements ents but waive the pavement on construction
for conservation purposes.
Ms Behrman stated putting greens require high inputs of nitrogen and cranberry
bogs need a very low input of nitrogen and asked ed i f the putting greens and lawns
are buffered as much as possible from the bog areas. Mr, Hostetter stated in-
tense
ntense studies are being done locally and an expert opinion will be presented to
the Commission shortly. There are slaw releasing fertilizers and there is a
150 ft. distance that the Cranberry Growers Assoc. has used as a barometer and
there will be no structure closer than 150 ft. Ms . Behrman stated she would be
very interested in the nutrient loading figures when the project is presented.
. Donnelly stated they could explore a shrub swamp with a little more water
In It and asked if the Commission would look favorably upon them converting
it back to a pond area and using for irrigation so that any nutrients coming
down through Quakers Run will tend to be held in the pond and that water cul
be used for irrigation of the golf course.
Ms Behrman stated it is her understanding it is felt at DEQE that a shrub swamp
area is a better~ sponge for nutrient run- off than an open space water, which
would also apply to vegetated areas bordering wetlands .
Ernest Virgilio presented a new set of drawings for the three Town Landings ,
Crich were accepted by DEQE. (SE 43-580, SE 43-581 and SE 43-582) , A second
set was requested for the files.
Pirates Cove: Nor. Virgilio advised he applied for a grant to rebuild three
existing boat ramps. It is planned to go into Pirates Dove, remove the existing
unsuitable material and replace with a rock known as tail end and a cement access
into the water. The construction will consist of removal of and direct loading
of all unsuitable nates al with no spoils on the site, Regrading to elevations
shown on the plans, some sandbagging and some water pumping to beep the water
moving from the reconstruction area. The outer perimeter will be sandbagged
waterside while constructing and a pump will be kept in a perforated prefab
container to keep the water on the other side of the sandbags. The ramp, after
completion, will be aproned by the Class I bituminous asphalt apron. Precedi ng
that will be a stone sealing, small turnarounds and small paring lots . The
State has required that signs be placed throughout the town due to grant money
being used that these ramps are for the general public. Parking will be what
is existing and will be allowed on one side of the street.
