Conservation Commission
Meeting of February 5, 1987
Page 2.
Oyster Point - continued
D r. Teal stated he has mapped out a 1 1 the vegetation and has concluded nothing
should occur around the edge of the pond. The pond is only two feet deep and
filled with leaves. There will be no clearing i n the area . The ground water
is of good quality. The bog area 'is grown up with maple and he recommended
it be. cleared back out again to make it more 1 i ke a bog , not for commercial
production.
Ms Behrman stated the Commission would be happy to work with him and would
like to see updated plans .
John stated road drainage wou1d be a concern of the Commission . He suggested
use of a double MDC drain in road drainage areas .
Mr. Grassetti stated a comprehensive package wi 1 1 be furnished on the proposed
dredging and new updated pians .w i l 1 be forwarded to the Commission.
- Jay -Son Trust (All Cape Survey Consultant). Lot 22 - 1153 Popponesset
Island F oad. Continued from December 18, 1986. Tina Bay log presenting.
The permit from the Board of Appeals has been received . Abutters receipts were
presented.
Ms Bay 1 og advised the distance from mean low water to the end of the pier is
48 feet . The onf i g'ura t i on of the floats are a specific request of the client
based on the fact he has an old wooden boat requiring a lot of maintenance. The
boat fits into the U-shape in order that he may walk around it . The floats will
be professionally maintained and will not be stored on the property during the
winter. The floats are 8 inches thie and will draw 3 inches of water with a
.400 per square foot load on them. There is only 1 -1/2 feet of water in that area
Mary Marsters questioned the depth of the via to r. Ms Baylog advised it was
negative 1 . 1 draw in the interior.
Mr. Rosenberg questioned how a boat could be put in there with the Creel and
the need for 20 foot arms. he stated five boats could be moored on that size
float. It was stated this is a 22 foot sailboat by Ms Bay 1 og .
Ms Behrr an Mated future use of a subsequent owner was a concern of the Commission .
Ms. Bayl g Mated the dock is consistent in length with others in the area . She
referred to a cross section of the dock.
Dave Ryan, , Bhel 1 f i h Officer, asked to be heard . He advised he was unable to
comment when this went before the Board of Appeals . He stated he has strong
reservations about the size and location of this project . This stretch of
shoreline in Poppnsst Bay is extremely productive in softshol 1 clams and
quahogs . This past summer over 400 bushels of softshel 1 clams and quahog's
were placed into the bay and a large majority went in the location of this
proposed dock. It is not consistent with the size of other docks in the area .
The Shellfish Department would like to use this relatively uncluttered stretch
of beach for some seed gro lout of quahogs . # l so, concerning doing maintenance
on the boat, scraping of paint would be detrimental to the econosystem. I
anything is to go in this spot, he would recommend something very short to
provide access for a small boat to get out to a mooring .
