Conservation commission
Meeting of April 21 , 1988
Page 2.
Ms Behrman asked for 2-3 weeks lead time and they agreed to provide plans.
7;30 - Pine Hill Estates: V. Louise Behr an and Mary Marsters stepped down.
Jeff Oakes of Flynn Engineering presented an amended Notice of Intent.
First Hole: Berns are shown to collect any runoff. There are three Red
Maples in the standing water; thirty trees in the wetland will be taken
down to stumps; the existing ground cover and shrubs will be left intact*
Mrs. Ferriday suggested they top some trees and replace some with lower
growing shrubs. She asked if there will be signs to remind people to stay
out of certain areas.
. Oakes agreed this could be written into the order of Conditions. He
advised it is proposed to put crushed stone down to keep the existing path;
. 6 feet wide of crushed stone brought in with a bobcat.
Mr. Coffey asked if fertilizers had been addressed and was told It was in the
Notice of Intent and would be the slow release type.
f s. Ferriday stated, when writing up the order, more information on irrigation
and maintenance would be required.
Second Hole: Mr. Oakes stated they now propose to leave the Kettle Hole as is.
They will excavate from elevation 38, where water is now, down to 24 in order
to create a fairway pond. The isolated land subject to flooding is indicated
on the plan with a red line. There is a plan for pond excavation where- they
would stockpile the shrubs, excavate, then replace shrubs.
Mrs. Ferriday asked the amount of pond residue to be removed and was told
1691 cubic yards taken from the bottom, probably used as topsoil in another
area on the site. Test pit information was available; they went down to 7-1/2
feet at elevation 33. Concerning irrigation, Mr. Oakes stated there is an
existing well 1100 feet away, tested, pumped at a rate of 20 gallons per
minute' for five days. A well 400 feet from the monitor well only showed
drawdown of 3 inches.
Mr. Burns asked if it would have any effect on the pond and how deep is the
well . They are 80 - 90 feet versus 28 feet. It was stated when they ran it
for a number of days It only dropped 3 inches. The land is graduating from
24 up to 80 feet on the plan. When the well was monitored, it only dropped
3 inches in 5 days; his point is that Mr. Oakes stated it shouldn't have any
effect of pulling water. He stated the elevation should be specified,
Mrs. Ferriday asked to have the elevation of the well put on the plan,
Mr, Oakes stated the surface elevation has no bearing on the ground water
elevation but agreed to the request.
Lisa asked to have the edge of the wetland moved back 15 feet on one side
and Mr. Oakes agreed to extend the line.
Mr. Burrs stated vegetation should be maintained.
. Oakes asked that the Dearing be closed and any problems ironed out after.
