Again we could have been close to
the dz ad area.
.
Paul then displayed photos taken at low tide, The dock will go over the
marsh . I
Louise then stated that the Commission does ori-sites on Wednesdays. 14
they could meet on Wednesday the 13th of July at the site , the; could
if
see where thez new stakes are going. Paul Sommerville will go with thea.
The Commission continued the hearing until July 28 at 7:30 .
Thomas Cummings
T
Application to construct and maintain a wood pile dock, elevated al
ramp and 2 floats in Waquoit Pay.
Mr. Cummings stated that he has lived on Seconsett Island since 1 .
Engineerino was done for this project in the wintertime . He first
wanted to put in a dock that could be put in and taken out each year ,
but he was told this ou l d do more harm to the environment than a
permanent dock . He has dome everything he can to not damage the
environment . Stated that there has to be a balance bet:,.veen all
interests - caw't be shellfish 1004: and boaters 0%
Louise then read a letter from neighbors Mr . Cummings, Mr . and Mrs.
Her t i n, who object to the project . Then she read recommendations from
Lisa Hansc . The project site falls within an area of critical
environmental concern . It is protected by the Wetlands Act, the
location of significant shellfish resource areas and also would damage
the land. Boating would also have ars adverse impact . The shellfish
warden also recommends that the application be denied f
Paul Sommerville - Many comments made as to the Bradshaw case can also
be directly app l l e d to this case . - A map drawn by Dave Ryan when he was
Shellfish garden shows that during the two years he was here this was a
high use zone for shel 1 f i h i n . Boating is the factor that will have
the most impact on the she l l f i sh i nc beds, This area is even more
significant for she l i f i sh i n , as immed i ate l -- to the north is a public
access to the Bax, This dock does not present any physical blockage to
shell fishermen , however t'he dock i l 1 impact the beds due to prop wash.
At low tide there were 1 inches of water at the end of the dock, which
is feet long. t 125 feet there was 20 inches of water . Paul then
quoted Mr , Roel ands s report, Mr , Howl and.:s report points out that a
greater number of species l i e in shallower water , "Location of dock
ill impact shellfish resource zones."
DiscUSE-lon fol lasrjed as to what t%vpe of lumber wi7l be used,
