Conservation Commission
Meeting of August 25, 1988
Page 2.
Mrs. Marsters asked what are we protecting by not allowing this other float's
Mr. Rosenberg stated there is another dock coring in net to i , before the Board
f Appeals now.
Lisa stated she did not like the size at all .
Mr. Rosenberg stated they have been turned dawn over and over on the ground it is
excessive in view of the size of the lot,
Mrs. Marsters stated we are really supposed to be protecting the wetland and are
e doing that by denying this,% F
Mrs. Epstein and Mr, O'Neill came Forward. She showed how the prevailing southwest
breezes push the boat against the Float causing a lot of pressure on the pilings and
on the boat. Mr. o'i e i l l 's float i s not as shown but is actually sideways. When ,you
have to bring the boat in, it's a Very tight squeeze.
Mrs. Simmons asked, why not shift your float. Mrs. Epstein asked what w b1d be
done when coning down the ramp and Mr. Rosenberg stated it would be L-shaped.
Mrs. Epstein stated that would give a little more access However, with the size of
the boat against the size of the float it doesn't natter whether it's here or there,
the wind is still going to push it. Mr. Rosenberg stated if the boat is centered
on the float, it shouldn't push it only if the stern of the boat is put on the
float having the bow way over, Mrs. Epstein stated that is what they have to do
so Mr. O' Neill has roan to go by.
Mr. O'Neil stated his float is oblong not square as shown. He drew it in on the
plan. It has been there three years. Mrs. Simmons stated the file on this should
be checked.
Ms Behrr a n asked, as this is a problem with navigation, would this not be more
properly addressed in the Stated Waterway licensing phase and when it goes to the
Array corps of EKg i ne rrs. Mr. Rosenberg agreed, it's not really a conservation
issue. Mrs. Marsters stated the Commission would have to address it too.
Ms Beh rn stated only the environmental impact, not navigation.
Mr. Burns stated it would make sense to moor the boat the same as Mr. O'Neill .
Mrs. Epstein stated it is very shallow, the boat is 331 with a shallow draft.
Mrs. Simmons asked Mrs. Epstein if she would life to continue the hearing until
she can look into mooring the boat the other way. Mrs. Epstein stated, but the
pilings are already here. Mrs, Simmons stated they would have to be changed.
Mr. Burns pointed out the stern would be out further, in deeper water, because
you're not changing anything. It shows more water on the plan.
Mr. Rosenberg stated the Commission has a set of plans here but are being told
the plans don't rake sense. It shows at least a foot of water. It was suggested
depths be verified before a decision is made.
Mrs. Jacobson asked the frontage on Mr. O' eill 's lot and was told 30'6", pie_
shaped lot,
The Chairman asked Mrs. Epstein if she wanted the Board to make a ruling on this
plan or continue the hearing and look into other avenues.
