Conservation commission
September 21 , 1989
Page 5.
Ms Behrman asked if they were going to construct a drainage trench along the
inside edge?
. McGrath stated the existing elevation is at 3.7' along the entire length;
there is very little depth to ground water. They did look at trying to put
some sort of drainage system but it was impossible.
Ms Behrman suggested flow diffusers in the yards to the south. Mr. McGrath
stated they would be in the ground water.
Mr. Coffey asked how many residents there are and how many trips.
Mr, McGrath advised there are 17 houses; 17 vehicle trips per day. The width
of the road is shown at 11 ft,
Ms Behrman asked how deep the water pipewill be going' i hwood Dater spec-
ifications
pecifications show it down at 5 ft. She asked if they will be dewatering and is
that in?
Mr,. Mc rath advised a l l the houses are served now by private wells.
Mr. Rosenberg asked if they were planning a berm on the south side of the road
to direct the water to the other side. Mr. McGrath advised they plan to have
a bituminous concrete waterway there, at three points, directly discharging into
the salt marsh.
Mr. Rosenberg read from the project description, "A berm will be constructed at
the project edge to contain run-off. Drainage will be improved by the use of a
recharge area, leaching catch basins and waterways".
{fir. McGrath stated there are berms to contain the edges and protect the edges b
slightly greater thickness at the edge; it will contain the run-off.
Ms Behrman added, until they get to the waterways and thea there will be
concentrated snot. Mr. McGrath agreed, that is absolutely correct.
Mr. Coffey asked if there were natural gullies doing the sane thing there row?
Mr.. c Grath advised the road floods and then overtops the shoulder. There are
no berms there now. He located the catch basins on the displayed plan. From
the edge of the catch basin to the salt marsh is 35 feet.
Mr. Rosenberg stated, in the areas of the three waterways,, a crown in the riddle
of the road and even drainage off on both sides would lessen possible erosion,
M
Mr. McGrath stated it is not going to take munch of a storm to have it flow into
the marsh, no matter what, but he could revise the plan to show that and take off
the waterways.
Mr. Sherman suggested an environmental assessment might be wise and requested
a copy of the plan shown tonight. Mr. McGrath agreed to provide a plan.
Ms Behrman stated dewatering is not in the Notice of latent. She would like to
know how and where the water will be pumped, if they are going to do i t. She
asked i f it will be done with a Bobcat and was told a Backhoe crust be used. she
further asked what will be put down the edge of the road to ensure no farther
encroachment on the salt marsh.
Mr. McGrath started a temporary sediment fence is shown, 28" high, burried i n.
