conservation Commission
November 1 , 1989
Page 2.
buffer strip is proposed with the elimination of the grass,
CONTINUED To DECEMBER 1 - :30.
8,6. 15 NORMAN HARWAY, 45 Santu i t Lane, continued from March 9. 1989.
WITHDRAWN WITHOUT PREJUDICE.
8:30 DANIEL'S ISLAND I PROV T ASSOCIATION, Continued from September 21 , 1989
Todd Palmatier of Holmes & McGrath and -Bill Sullivan and Mike Hayward of the Assoc-
iation
ssoc-
iaption presenting,
letter from Charles Rowley, Planning Board consultant Engineer, was read into the
record. A complete review of the construction by Mr. Rowley was at the Planning
Board and will be obtained for the commission.
Mr. Sullivan stated they wish to bring water out to the Island because of poor water
quality and pressure and to improve the road as well without changing the configuration.
Presently, waiter collects and gradually dissipates into the marsh through a thickly
foliated bank which they propose to leave.
Ms Beh rm n stated one of the critical points in the review by Mr. Rowley was the
sealed drainage runways into the marsh, he suggested they be spread as far apart as
possible and to maximize the running distance.
Mr. P lmatier advised they have responded to Mr. Rowley's recommendations; they have
identified the ones that are nearest, eliminated one sot of. leaching catch basins and
moved another to provide space. They have changed the design of the waterways at his
suggestion and have provided 4 feet o run of -6" crushed stone to reduce velocity
and trap sediment. He pointed out a detail of the recharge area. It will be excav-
ated
xc v-ated and grassed which will contain water and allow for slow percolation as well as
trap particles and pollutants.
Mrs. Simmons suggested some kind of fence be considered.
r, Coffey stated { -berry in the recharge area was mentioned by Charles Rowley and
asked if this is an alternate to the berm. Mr. Palmatier advised it is in addition
to the bean.
A planting of rola rugoa was suggested to keep people from taking a shoe cut. I
was noted if a decision to plant is made, a letter should be sent to be incorporated
into the order of Conditions. This was agreed to by the representative and members.
. Sullivan advised there are 16 residents on the island, only one living there the
year around, it is not a heavily travelled road.
Ms Beh rman asked if they were going to flag a l l the way down the edge of the road and
was told they are. She stated this will ensure staying on that 10 ft. wide strip.
Concerningthe dewatering process, they propose putting the suction end into a trench
and discharing into a 55 gallon drum with the perimeter lined with haybales.
Mr. Coffey asked if there was a concern where they will be pumping close to septic
systems.
