Mr, York <br /> stated that Poponesset is private land and the government buys <br /> property to prevent building or rebuilding; he felt it was worth <br /> following up, Mr. Homeer stated that under MEA the State <br /> is suppose to fund this type of emergency; Mr, Sherman stated <br /> there is no money for this. There was a consensus among the <br /> group that the barrier beach disappearance (Poones set spit) <br /> is the biggest coastal problem Mas h pee faces, Mr, Ellis <br /> suggested vegetating i t. Mr, Home er stated that the dredge <br /> spoils could be used to build the harrier beach (which will <br /> be a year away) . Mr. Hanks recommended tabling this discussion <br /> until the next meeting. <br /> South Cape Beach Issues fir. Hanks asked if anyone wanted to <br /> review the Flan and comment on it at a later date; Mr. Homeer <br /> stated he would. There was concern raised with work not being <br /> done as planned through the South cape Beach Committee and <br /> there are some problems with "treated" pilings. 'there was <br /> discussion about the condition of Willis work Road and locked <br /> gates. Mr. Fudala stated that the road is not town owned and <br /> therefore we have no control over i t. we need, more de f i n i t ion <br /> re: the road entrance and the gatehouse and how it will. impact <br /> Great oak. Nor. Hanks suggested forwarding comments to him which <br /> he will follow up. Mr. York noted that a public comment period <br /> will be held for three weeks. fir. York stated that he wrote <br /> to 'tom cahi,r and the South Cape Advisory Committee to receive <br /> some clarity since he felt the person who wrote the Management <br /> Plan was not entirely correct, Mr, Fudala noted that the plan <br /> includes a 400 car parking lot. Mr. Ellis suggested writing <br /> a letter from this committee. Discussion to be continued. <br /> Storm Runoff Mitigation Areas include Great liver Ramp, Mashpee <br /> Diver Sources, Monomoscoy Road, Ockway Hay Ramp, Pirates Cove <br /> Ramp. Mr. Hanks noted that. Mr. York and Mr. Taylor have <br /> knowledge re: this . Mr. Fork reported some experimental <br /> procecures are being tried. wetland destruction problems <br /> occurred with diverting the water. catch basins will help, <br /> and a grant application for $8 , 000 has been made. Mr. Taylor <br /> stated that a $16 , 000 grant for drainage reduction on Mashpee <br /> River has been awarded but not yet received. Mr. Fork suggested <br /> doing a preliminary study by going to the homeowners ' association <br /> and ask if they are willing to pay for it. Mr. York will do <br /> more coliform monitoring and testing run off on ramps , as well <br /> as surveying on Mashpee Haver. A sub committee was formed to <br /> define the issues and solutions , Greg Taylor, Tom Fudala Rick <br /> York, Jim Hanks, and a Board of Health Rep (to be announced) . <br /> -2- <br />
