Public Works Building Committee
Meeting of October 10, 198
Page 2.
Mr, Hanson questioned whether asphalt could be obtained if the contractor goes
beyond Thanksgiving.
It was noted that in accordance with DCPO regulations the first letter of warning
was transmitted by Ellis Laycock dated October 4, 1984 to Aaron Cohen. and a sec-
ond letter is to be written.,
Lee Sweeney advised that temperature will be a problem with the slab. Iron work
could be completed in one day. The contractor has the bar Joists, but no columns
and no del i very date on the col urns.
It was meted that three vertical control joints are missing from the wall .
Architect's e ort to the Committee: The crane is scheduled for October 11 .
s soon as the masons are out, site worm will begin. -The site contractor wants
an extra for the berm work. Ellis stated he feels the contractor Inas every in-
tention of completing the job and doing a good ,fob in the final analysis, No
letters have been received by the contractor for subs not being paid. The form
man has now been paid. Regarding concrete, three groups of test cylinders have
been taken and four cylinders have been broken. One group tested wel I , the others
did not. Three thousand pounds was specified and the town will be due a credit
for the difference of approximately $1500.-$2000. If the contractor wants to
attempt to prove that it does test at three thousand, it will be paid for by
him. The clerk of the works will be notified when the new test will be done.
The contractor did order three thousand pound concrete.
The contractor has been requested to put in the missing control Joints.
Mr. Re stated that if the -dirt was to remain on the Jobs i to, it would be a minus.
He also requested that Ellis write to Triple A stati rig the credit that will' be
due for the difference in the concrete. With regard to Mr. Cohen's letter con-
cerning the site man, Ernie Virgilio has stated that at no time did he give any
instructions to the contractor or sub-contractor. When Mr. Masaschi went to the
Highway Department office to ask what to do with the dirt, he was referred to
the committee or the architect. The committee has cooperated in every way
passible, but specifications rust be met as written. Mr. Re agreed to answer
Mr. co h en's letter.
John Wyllie pointed out that due to all the good weather that was lost due to
the contractor* delay, the heating of the building should be his responsibility.
Ellis advised the Topo available when the bids were submitted was inaccurate.
Well l was located on paper in one spot, when the site was cleared, the existing
well was closer to the street and the contours changed.
Town counsel stated that the surveyors, Associated Engineers of Plymouth, could
be held responsible for any damages that ultimately might be a natural consequence
of that error and would be responsible for additional costs due to their negligence.
