L
Public Works Building committee
Meeting of November 1 , 1984
Page 4.
i
Ellis stated the extension would be legal when, by studying the Clerk of the
Works reports, study of extension requests that may have been granted in change
orders (not applicable to date) , strikes, weather, shortage of material or not
delivered on time, had been considered.
Ernie Virgilio stated that from his experience, in a court of law, a contractor
who is shown on the clerk of the Works report not to have worked on the best of
days, loses the option of a day for a day.
Mr. Virgilio pointed out to the committee that the salt shed will be lit.
John Wyllie gave the committee copies of Leo Sweeney's bill covering the dates
from October 1 through October 26 for a total of 165 hours. The invoice total
$1650.00. The invoice was reviewed by the committee and approved.-
VOTE:
pprovedVOTE: Moved and seconded to approve the payment to Leo G. sweeney i n the
amount of $1650.00. Unanimous Vote.
Mr. Re advised the committee there may be a problem at tunes getting four
signatures to approve invoices
VOTE: Moved and seconded to approve invoices with a minimum of three signatures.
Unanimous approval .
Mr. Virgilio reported on the telephone system for the building, He has checked
three telephone companies; a Westfield company, not being considered, lir. Tele-
phone of Mashpee, who could not provide figures at the present time and AT&T,
who i's the easiest company to understand and probably the best system. Brochures
were shown to the committee, He stated he is asking for four telephones to start
and four lines. A telephone in h i s office, one in the secretary's office and
a smaller version in the mechanics and foreman's offices. The man from AT&T
did not like the layout and will come before the committee to provide details.
A 25 part line i s required. Future needs may be 1-2 lines. I f the town goes
to a computer system, this Merlin system can be tied i n. The systems are approx-
imately $5000. to purchase, but through AT&T, it can be leased for approximately
$100. per month, with the cost of lease and regular phone bill .
Ellis informed the committee there is a pipe going through the floor to extend
phones to the second floor, He agreed to meet with Mr, Virgilio and the man
from the telephone company next week.
Mr. Virgilio informed the committee the telephone system does not have to go
out for bid. If the system i s leased there will be no problem and as h i s
limit is $4000, he will keep the system under that amount.
Mr. Brown asked how much of this matter is the committee's responsibility.
It was noted the equipment is not in the committee budget and the only respon-
sibility is for the prewiring.
