Public Works Building Committee AMENDED
Meeting of November 1 , 1984 f
Page 5.
Ernie Virgilio stated he ret with Lawrence Lynch. He showed the committee a drawing
of a system for paving shown in yellow, With pricing as follows:
3600 square yards - 330 tons with 1-1/2" of base $109,000.
with " of base $125000.
P# Ire good until 7/1/856
He stated he would prefer the 2" base. There will be another 60' x 40` paved as
part of the shed, which leaves little to be paved later. He stated the latest
date to give notice to the paving contractor to pave this ,year would be the day
before Thanksgiving,, November 21 , If only the front portion, down to the road
can be paved, he will have the trucks only use that area to keep out of the mud.
Ellis read one of his letters to Aaron Cohen, copies delivered to the committee,
which is a directive to the contractor to spread the hardener, but to first grade
out to 9" , not 12" , below finished grade, which gives him less material to take
away and thea spread the hardener b" above that rough base as a finished grade
for him. That leaves " to put asphalt directly on top, omitting the aggregate
base which is not required.
Ernie Virgilio stated he may not move into the building if not .paged, in order
not to drag a mess into the garage and perhaps do irreparable harm.
Mr. Re stated if the site extra is settled' at a reasonable cost, or no cost,
there may be an extra on the electrical and if the plumbing and electrical
have proceeded, we would have a fairly goad picture of the possible future change
orders before Thanksgiving Day. We can then make a decision whether to allocate
money to paving the area to the extent discussed.
John Wyllie stated it is his undertand i ng that if the contractor agrees to pro-
ceed as per El l i s's letter, we would not have to pay $2200. However, referring
to El l i s's other letter to Aaron Cohen, a cost to the town of $2,374 is mentioned.
Ellis stated the contractor is asking for an extra of $2374 for removing the 633
yards of excess, Ellis i s suggesting that by allowing the excess to be pushed
over into the hollow,, the cost of -$2374 will be eased. There may be an extra
charge, but it should be less than $2,000. He stated he has not received a reply.
Ellis also stated he will notify the contractor that the tarn i s going to pave
and the date required. he will send a letter tomorrow and also phone him.
John Wyllie asked Ellis if the change orders for spreading the hardener was can-
celled
an-
cel1ed and i f there was one for the burying of the stumps.
Ellis stated it is his feeling it has been cancelled, as it comes under earth
work. The burying of the stumps should not be a change order as this was an
easement to the contractor.
Mr* Wyllie stated if the town i s charged for moving the sand, there- should be
something given hank to the town for allowing them to bury the stumps.
