The scope of the Pirates Cove Association project
was to make the beaches more available to the
public. To achieve that goal, they wanted to
clear away the front of the beach and refill it
with new sand. These permits were granted in
three separate areas . One was in Orsini Beach, a
second was the area known as beach "c, " and the
third was almost at the mouth of the river and
known as beach "b. "
Jim asked if there was anything mentioned in these
grants about navigation to which Paul responded
that he did not think so. Jim replied that we
would pass this information onto Leslie Fields of
the Woods Hole Group to assist in the work that
they are doing for us pertaining to the dredging
of the Mashpee River.
Jim Hanks reported that he has received the after
dredge report from Wayne Jaedtke. This- report
states that 2, 800 cubic yards were removed from
Little/Great River. Mr. Jaedtke also submitted a
bill for $13, 026. 65 which was slightly over what
we anticipated. He has also prepared a before
dredging survey of Popponesset Bay.
Jim put together a spreadsheet showing the amount
of money that we have, less the 13, 000; we can
dredge approximately 5200 yards in the Popponesset
Bay area.
Jim also distributed to commission members the
"Mashpee River Dredging Project" handout showing
cubic yards, average depth, cost, etc. Jim led an
extended discussion on the subject of the dredging
project handout.
Also handed out at this time was the Woods Hole
Progress Report from Leslie Fields.
Jim Hanks discussed with Mr. Jaedtke targeting
specific areas to clean out in the amount that we
could afford the next time that he conducts the
bathymetry survey.
John' s Pond Issues
