Stereadrin from the Shellfish Corntrussion made a motion that this grant proposal
would not significantly impact the shellfish resources. Scan Hendricks seconded the
motion and all other commission members voted in favor.
Herb Silver Vice Chaftnw of the waterways Commission made a notion to
approve the Shellfish Grant Application as proposed by Mo Cassanelfi. Paul
Lumsden seconded the motion and all other waterways Commission members voted
in favor. The Ynotion was carried.
Robert Bangs of 174 Simons barrows Road introduced himself and began his
presentation of his Shellfish Grant Application. The location of the proposed
Aquaculture Grant will be located just east ofucconesset Point and just west of
Koch Landing. Two hundred feet offshore jn three to four feet of water at mean low
tide. Mr. Bangs does not feel that his site 's obstructing any navigable channels or
mo ormg areas.,
Jhn Hanks told Bob Bangs that his concerns were with the depth of water and the
probability that boats propellers are still apt to hit the equipment even with the
presence of appropriate buoys,
Mr. Bangs was very compliant as to the suggestions for changes in the height of the
gear and he agreed to go from 18 inches above the bottom to 8 inches above so to
avoid becoming a navigable hazard,
Herb Silver asked Mr. Bangs if he could be more speck regarding exactly what gear
he felt he would be using. Bob responded that it was difficult to determine since he
was m somewhat "uncharted territory" and he was uncertain of what was going to
work favorably, if anything, in the open water.
Bob further explained that the main reason he chose this site was because
harbornaster Perry Ellis recommended it,
.mer a lot more discussion and suggestions, Jinn banks persuaded commission board
members to agree to put some comments down on paper to better advise lir. Bangs
when he reprised his application, Mother suggestion to Mr. Bangs was that he come
back to the boards with detailed drawings of the gear, being very specific, a task that
he will need to do for the Conservation on n-ssion anyway,
Rich York presented a draft report of a project that he has been working on. This
draft is a comprehensive report on water quality, The Mashpee Kiger Fecal Coliform
Bacteria Study, which was funded by the planning board and started in the summer of
1986.
Mr. York's study focuses on the bacteria.while Brian Lowes of the School of Marine
Science and Technology, University of Mass at Dartmouth, is working on the
Nitrogen impact analysis,
