Board of Health, Meeting, Minutes, January 28 , 1985
I asked him to send me a letter telling Arte that if the Commission got the
tapes, they would reproduce them and return thea to us. He sent me this
**letter dated January 18th which was received at my office on January 21st.
I spoke to him today and he gave me his personal assurance today, a personal
guarantee today that this taping would be done and the original of the tapes
would be seat back to us and they would keep a copy of them. I asked hire,
b the way .if he was oink t listen to all f the tapes himself and he said
  lengthy,
Yes. I would submit if there are eight tapes and they are fairly
aren't they, this would take several hours
CHL: "The only thine that bothers me is that the Board should decide whether
the Baor'd wants to go and hand over the tapes or not, that' s why we invited
you here tonight. " I did not want to make that decision as the Chair.
T well listen I think it' s very important that this record of this meet-
ing indicated that my instructions to communicate to Mr. Hughes, what i have
communicated to him, did not come from you, they carne from the Selectmen,
and you were not privvy to this.
FB: No, they did not come from me and I had s o en to Ir. 'wi l son about it.
T C You and Roy felt this - was not an appropriate thing, to lose these tapes.
FB: No
T Y-ou figured you might nearer get them back.
RLW* What' s right.
CHL: well, there ' s two things that bother me as a member of the Board
1 n the way that they conduct themselves, the Ethics Committee,
the way they carne in and told everybody not to speak about it and
everything else, that ' s a bunck of crock, because -that doesn' t mean
anything.
Charlie was even that assumption when he got the subpoena for
the tape, I didn 't even know about the- -------------thing. You know.
  anything .se
Now, I wouldn't do anything to hold u the tapes nor ani g ,
I really don't give a damn if they want to sit and listen to sixteen
hours or tame, let thea listen to it. The only thine I have to go on
record as saying, not for myself, per se, but for the board in toto,
alright, all of s'. We take a. . . .thine can be taken out of context
on tape, when you do not know the background of things, alright and.
that' s what bothers me than there ' s some guy sitting up in Boston
and this guy Hughes who doesn't have a brain in his head, as far as
I 'm concerned, . sits up theme and is reading these tapes or -is listen-
ing to these tees, so the next thing you hear is. . . saw so and so,
and this happened, this might have happened two weeks prior and this
person on the Board brings up information on it, they weren' t acting
as an agent, he was bringing information to the Board. I think every
board in this town has this iDroblem, think we've discussed this
Charlie, the Selectmen, Personnel, Planning any of thea, people make
comments sometime kiddingly, I 'm not worried about what I said, but I
just want these people to know that this Board is very close and has
worked together for to long time and that we have a lot of information
that we share back and forth, not for record, not for Public Record,
and you' ll hear it on these tapes, and I think -they' e got to take
that into consideration,
