SO THAT WITH THE ADVICE OF TOM COUNSEL WE-FEEL THAT OUR RESPONSE TO THESE PEO- PLE WILL BE THAT IF WE USE A FILTERING PROCESS, THEY HAVE THE MAINTENANCE PEOPLE UP THERE THAT CAN TAKE E CARE OF I T, WE CAN NAME A CONTRACT SIGNED FOR THE COMPANY TO ADVISE IN THE MAINTENANCE ADVO THE WHAT-NOT, AND IN THE INTERIM -IAT THEY HAVE DONE IS TO BY-PASS THAT WELL AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY TL USING'OVER THE GROUND SES I N .ORDER TO BRI 1G. Buck i ngh ani stated that the f i 1 ters that are be i ng proposed by W. Jones had been used on Long Island and have partial agreenent, they were used for the Aldecarb problem. The filtering has par- tial ar- tia1 approval from EPA & DE E, this same filter will remove the volatiles that removed the Aldecarb- the f i Iters are capab le of a through put of 75M ga I Ions, wh i ch s hou I d be ade uate. The prob l erg i n Long Island was that they put an outlet before the back wash and people were throwing wager out in the ,yards which hadn't gore through the filtering. CPB and Jones will get in touch with DEE. The money for the project will be found somhow by the Selectmen. A possibility is the T-4 well in the Quinaquisset area, however at this time DEE wants to hold off on that until to tiM and a mathemati c l model than 900,000 gallons per day will not i of l uence the p l uTe CPB also e l abo rated on the fact that H i ghwood still has not have on 1 i n the reservoir tank that they were supposed to have had by this Spring and to the fact that this Board has questioned th i s fact with DEE and has not gotten a reply as yet. There is a well field in ockway Bay that was tested from three to five years ago with a yield of 1 million g.p.d, however, it has a high back- ground of manganese, but if push corns to shave we probably could get sore grunt money to build a cleansing plant. 6. Discussion was held on alleviation ofthe problem on a 'short tern' (two weeks to a month) this has been the responsibility of the interim water commissioners, wbo, had been looking into water from H i hwood or the T-4 site., those plans are still going forward. After discussion with Weston/meson, DE E, EPA and W. Jones the choices opted were: 1 do nothing, 2 prov i de .water• from an outs i de-source and S a f i l ter i n process 4 do it a quickly as passible. It was thought that a new well could be installed west of the buildings at Mme mod (in-formation from Weston/Sampson had shown this area to be outside the pluTe emina- t i ons) however, the draw on that well might cause a shift in the direction of the p l ume, the study to determine the location, shape and direction of the plume is ongoing, Phase I I, wells were drilled last week of rrulti level types. The filter to be used would be capable of filtering 75 1 gallons and the well for Bldg 14 would be continued to be used. Discussions will be held with DEE and EPA to be sure that the filters will be of the right size and type, as soon as permission is granted by thea, the filters lters will be gotten and installed; mai rpt en ante will have to be provided and the company frcm which they are gotten.will have to be consulted regard i n the maintenance and the rte,i ntenance person at- SUMProod will have to be considered to be sure that filters are changed when required.
