. ..
months with the parking area, which was out of our control , we've tried t
deal with every situation to rake our store the best possible. We will continue
0 to operate that way,We grant to be in Mashpee for a very long time,
FB: As a citizen of Mashpee, there are many times I go into your store or any otter
store, I e gorse out with our inspectors b fore, I know the inspection rocedur ,
I know what' s required, it' s second mature to me. When I go into a store, the ap-
pearance tolls me two things. 1 . whether the store rants my business. and wants
my continued business. 2. When I see that the aisles are jammed, things on the
floor, it' s a negative reaction and it disturbs me when it's in my town. After the
incident ,you alluded to, where tete press got a hold of some- of the complaints,
I - went to the store several days later, I noticed that the aisles were clear,
that the area was in much better condition. A puddle on the floor was being
mopped up. The person doing the mopping -was being kidded about mopping up again.
I was very happy. The store manager should not be in the office, he should be out
walking the aisles.he has cone up thru the ranks and knows every aspect and dept.
in the operation. We are not here to tell him how to do h i s job, When we go into
the store formally or informally we want to see tete manager to carry out what
needs to be done. But what has happened is it takes formal steps to get things
corrected, By no means do we mean that Angelo' s hasn't correct what we formally
reguest. But we have to keep jogging; keep stabbing needles at problems that the
public sees. Speaking personally, I ars sure I could alk -into the store right
now and find some things wrong. You' ll remember back in March it was our feeling
that the store cannot not handle the volume it' s forced to during the summer
months. e agrred with ,your plans for upgrading the flooring and your- ongoing
sanitation programs. Things have improved. You call our complaints petty things.,
but in the eyes of the public they are not petty. These are the things that
strike and they tell us. There still clot of personal contact, and when some-
one tells rye or Elias or any member of the Board of a complaint, they feel that
they don't need to put it in writing . that this is official enough.
JF: That' s right, Jack MacDonald is the Stan on the spot and he has the support of
the corp. We've spent well over $100,000 on renovating the store. One of the
reasons Jack is in that store is because of his rapport with the public.
I agree that if someone gets a bad product even if we sell 100,000 units of it,
it is important to that person, We welcome the exchange back and forth, We
want to know of any feedback from the town,.-, We don't feel however that -this
type of feedback should go out to the press. unless it's of a serious nature.
and we are not willing to do anything about it.
Jack MacDonald (JM) : I have been in the business for 25 ,yrs in ten dif. towns and h
had an excellent relationship B Hs. Give me an opportunity to prove myself.
When we saw the report in the Messenger, it hurt us, alot of our employees are
lashpee residents. We' re not perfect but we' re striving. The employees were
upset that they had to read about the article without knowing about it.
I 'd like you to come down tonight. Things are going to be dropped on the florr.
Sometimes we don't mop the floor on purpose because of safety, we sweep it.
There is no question s to who is in charge of the store. I am. I welcome
the BOH at any time. I 'm a phone call away.
OFB: We've seen this cycle, where there are complaints, we call a meeting, thews
a clean sweep and that lasts for a while then there' s a break-down again.
We want an evening-out, we don't expect you to be perfect. It seems that
things are not taken care of as soon as possible. Jammed aisles create more
spilled products ending on the floor. Over loading i s difficult to prevent.
This has been much better. Fewer complaints, out of date products. It just
so happened that night we were discussing recent complaints the press was here.
I had gust been in the store and it rade rye sick and sad because I thought things
were moving along well , but everything caged-in. It happens. The only thing we
do is fire off our phone calls,
Robert Sturtevant (RS) : As far as I can tell at no time did any member of the Board
