MINUTES August 10, 1989 2 BOARD of HEALTH <br /> Anna Maria Whittier, who i of orMed Mr. Grotzke that the piping rust be cov- <br /> ered with plastic immediately and they should contact an asbestos- abate- <br /> ment contractor to package,, seal and label the material at which- time per- <br /> miss-ion should be obtained from the Board of Health to dispose of the mat- <br /> erial <br /> at- <br /> erial at the landfill or the contractor would be required to bring it to <br /> a commercial landfill. <br /> Mr;. Greelish questioned Mr. McQuaid as to whether they were aware that the. <br /> ateriai was cast nor -fr#ayable pipe. <br /> Mr. McQuaid' responded it was Ms. hittier's opinion that parts of pipe <br /> which were broken off were frayed at the very edge. <br /> Mr, Gree l i sh stated, as he understands it,- the reason for encapsulation <br /> i s to avo i d a i rbo me contain i nat i on , i f i t were bakf i i I ed thea and there, <br /> as Mr. McQuaid advised, there should net be a problem. <br /> Mr. McQuaid stated,, contrary 'to what Mr. G c t ke stated the location of <br /> this stockpile of asbestos piping is not the location of the proposed <br /> treatment plant,, i t is far enough away and in an area where there is no <br /> probability of construction. <br /> Mr. Costa requested Mr. McQuaid to respond to D.E. .E. Mr, Evans informed the Board the complaint he was <br /> made aware of was a brown algae growth on the bottom that has not been <br /> seen by the residents before. Mr. Evans commented- Barnstable County did <br /> not detect anything -unusual i.n, the .sample. <br /> .
