Costa discussed with els. jacobson the- articles for increased help <br /> 5 <br /> which will be submitted for the Trent special town meeting. <br /> APPOINTMENT: electman Gottlieb and Chief Ridgeway - Hazardous Waste coordinator <br /> e l ectaien Gottlieb, Chief Ridgeway and Se l ectwoman ja cobson were in attend- <br /> ance for this scheduled appointment. <br /> Mr, Costa explained that Mr. Buckingham accepted the position of Hazard- <br /> ous Waste Coordinator during the period in whichJean Thomas was acting Fire <br /> Chief.- <br /> Chief <br /> hief,Chief Ridgeway stated when he received a letter informing him that he was <br /> the hazardous waste coordinator he began to review the laws regarding hazardous <br /> waste and visited many areas within the tonin which hardus ,.waste is located. <br /> He commented when it comes -to ha ardous .wa stet',and materials, accord i rig oto the <br /> letter of the regulationsjthis town is a mess.' Chief Ridgeway, e laineo there <br /> . is no place in town in which to stare or dispose of the waste. <br /> Mr, Costa relayed to Chief Ridgeway that Mr Virgilio has received the <br /> permit to handle ha drdous waste' . <br /> ' 1 <br /> Mr. Gottlieb commented a posit-ion should b created at the net special <br /> town meeting* 1 <br /> Chief Ridgeway explained that ,he is submitting two .articles.' at the heat <br /> special town meet-Ing for the creation of two positions and :ommented one -posi- <br /> tion <br /> position will be designated for a fire 'inspector, that position may incorporate <br /> hazardous waste coordinator as well . <br /> Mr. McQuaid stated he contacted the health agent in Yarmouth who had just <br /> hired a hazardous waste coordinator at $25,000.00 per year and commented he <br /> did request a cosy of the job description. <br /> Mr. Costa reiterated his earlier comments statin -that Mr. Virgilio has <br /> received a E.P.A. number acid the oil disposal program will commence shortly <br /> and are currently working on tire disposal and battery disposal . Mr. Costa <br /> explained to Chief Ridgeway that hazardous waste barrels may be disposed of <br /> at the D.P.W. however they Must be handled correctly and placed in proper con- <br /> tainers <br /> on-- <br /> tainers etc. <br /> Chief Ridgeway explained that the barrels can be collected however the <br /> question of funds to dispose of the waste must be addressed. <br /> . Gottlieb suggested the D,P.W. , Fire Department and Board of Health <br /> schedule a meeting to discuss funds in various accounts that could be utilized <br /> for the disposal of -the waste. <br /> Mr. Costa recommended funds be rude available at net ,year' s annua i -town <br /> meeting for this purpose, <br /> Mr. Gottlieb stated another alternative is to increase the reserve fund. <br /> All calls for sp i i l 1 s , etc. should be directed o the Fire Depar intent with a <br /> follow-up call to the Board of Health.
