5
5
DISCUSSION:
A. 167 Niniuet Avenue
Mr. Harrington began by stating that Nis. IlcKeen who wasn't present was told
11no" by him. She didn't want to hear "no" from him. He then told her that if she
granted to hear "no" from the BOH members she should come talk to the BOH.
She wasn't present at this point in time.
Mr. Doherty stated that that was no problem. She was welcome to come back
anytime. Ms. NlcKeen couldn't discuss it if she wasn't present.
Mr. Ball made a motion to continue. Mr. Santos seconded. Motion passed. He
then asked Mr. Harrington what were all of the markings on the plot plan.
Ir. Harrington stated that they were elevations.
NEVA BUSINESS
A. William C. Henchy, Attorney for the Mashpee grater- district, he began by stating
that he appreciated the IH allowing him to be present this evening. He was here
to ask for the BOH members' support to the Conservation Commission request
that the Cape Cod Commission takes regulatory jurisdiction of Section 5 at New
r
Seabury. The reason for his request is because his board of water commissioners
is extremely concerned; it is fair to say that it is probably their overwhelming
concern, th this proposed development. He gave the BOH a copy of his
comments to MEPA. He hoped they had a chance to review them. He knows that
they are lengthy. It would be best if he could direct the-BOH members to the last
page f his letter. He attached couple of pva
plans that came out of the
environmental impact report that was required by the Mate. The second plan i
the Zone II. one of the plans vas the site plan of the development that was
proposed for Section 5 at New Seabury. The two wells that are in the middle are
the so-called "'book Landing" wells that the water district maintains. Those two
wells constitute well over half of the Town of Mashpee's public water-suppler. They
have approximately four million gallons per day capacity. It is actually somewhat
less than that. Those two wells are a million gallons a day each. one of their
wells, The Quaker horn well, which is 720, 000 gallons per clay has recently-
begun-to experience iron infiltration into the wells so the water district has
reduced it's pumping rates in order to slow that process. They have been told by
their technical staff`that once iron begins to migrate into well it i an ever -
downward spiral of reduced pumping rates. The iron migrates back in and
reduces productivity. Therefore, the two Rock Landing wells are extrer' ely
Important in terms ofour ability to supply public water for the town. Th
development that is surrounding those two wells is very extensive. what is
presently proposed by New Seabury is 425 residential units comprised of single
family houses and garden apartments, 80,000 square feet of commercial space,
tennis courts and, very significant to them, a driving range immediately
upgrading it.
Mr. Ball asked Mr. Henchy if that was what was proposed.
Ir. Henchy replied that that is what is proposed. It is not there yet.
2
