to the selectmen and it wasn't on the agenda, It was discussed without
benefit of having a representative there from the BOH. He would go in
heartbeat, Not necessarily to defend the Bo 's position, but, to at least
educate thein as to what will happen if you handle this with a heavy
hand, You are going to spend the time and money somewhere else, They
should allow people the opportunity to clean up the sites if that is
something they want to do. They would have at least had an opportunity
to tell the selectmen that information.
Mr. Santos stated that he had a copy of the by-lavers and the way that the
letter is written is exactly what it states in the by-laver. 1t stated that they
will pay the $300.00 and remove it and if not, it is a $300.00 per day fine.
Mr. Sall interjected that the by-lave also includes variances and
everything else. He didn't buy it. weren't they guided under a state by-
law
Mr. Harrington stated that this was a town by-laver.
Mr* Ball wanted to confirm that just because they make the by-lave does
the Bob! have to honor it. For example, if the town voted in a town
meeting to ban smoking and the BOH decided not to do that. The B
had to ban smoking? leo, that would be our decision with fines and
health.
Mr. Santos didn't think it was an appropriate example.
Ms. warden suggested that they not go down that avenue.
Ills. Carron suggested that he think of'a better comparison, she felt that
what Mr. Ball was asking was whether or not there was a legal
alternative.
IVIs. Vanden stated that they were under no obligation to go out and
investigate these calls. They could forward the calls to the DPW and let
her enforce therm. Ms, Warden reiterated that Ms. Laurent doesn't errant to
send out the citations. she told her the procedure and she doesn't want
to do it.
IVIS. Grady stated.to Mr. Alan samry of the IVlashpee Enterprise that Ms;
Laurent copied the board of selectmen.
Ir. sarnry stated that he was at the selectmen's meeting and Ills.
Laurent was never at the meeting. The selectmen just looked at the
memo and moved it along.
