t
k
Mr, Harrington suggested that they clarify the situation with Mr. Marshall.
They would let him know that if they held the pow-wow on the property
they would have to get a variance or abide by it as it is town property.
Ms. Warden felt that Mr. Marshall was addressing the burial ground. The
town right now owns the burial ground and the Wampanoaq are in the
process of trying to get it back. To what avail she had no idea because
they were all waiting...she felt that that was what they were addressing,
She didn't even think they should bring up this backyard because she felt
they were bringing up a whole other issue.
Mr* Harrington felt that it should be brought up because they use it.
Ms. Warden stated that this wasn't a school field. The town now owns the
building.
Mr. Farrington countered that the town owned it when it was a school.
Ms. Warden disagreed with him, she stated that the superintendent had
the final say over what went on in this building until he actually legally
game it to the town. The town owned this building. It was actually owned
by the school. The warrant legally gave it to the town, so now you have a
town billing the town grounds. if the school wants to use it it's one thing.
But, the school vent onto the school grounds. If you had to buy that issue
that way it would be a good way to do it also...
Mr. Harrington countered that the town owned the high school and the
other schools. The school did not own then.
FIs. Grady stated that state law regulates the regulations on tobacco on
the school grounds throughout the state;
Ms. Warden reiterated that the superintendent did own the schools and
the school grounds. However it is written it is written a certain way. Ms.
Grady may knew more than she did. However,, it was true and it happened
She was privy to that.
Mr. Harrington countered that the BOH still has jurisdiction over it. It was
within the torn of Mashpee.
i
M . Warden felt that they were treading on thin ground when you start
gong after the Vlannpanoag s. she really didn't want to get involved in
. -
that.
2
