Request from Wastewater Treatment Services, Inc. ref changes in Title V Regulations
ulation
Regulations for IlA d nit. Units for Remedial and General use requirements.
Glen Harrington reported receipt of a fetter from-Wastewater Treatment Services, inquiring how the
Board of Health will treat the monitoring of the new Remedial and General permits which will go into
effect on 1101106. The new permit, issued by DEP,-requires Remedial permits to have two service
visits with onsite testing per year, and General permits to have one service visit and one onsite test
per year. Wastewater water Treatment Services needs to know, in writing, whetter the Mashpee BOH will
comply with these new requirements, or c nt'i.nue with its own requirements.
Glen noted that the new DEP regulations are actually relaxing the monitoring requirements to no
actual testing, with just a visual inspection and then a field test. If the sample tails the visual and field
tests, then one lab sample would be taken. If the lab test fairs, they have another 60 days to
determine why it has failed. Currently, B H quarterly inspections are required for both remedial and
general permits. The neer regulations will cut the remedial inspections by half, and the general
inspections are reduced from 4 to I per year.
Glen Harrington recommended that the BOH continue with its own requirements for the first two
gears, and thea go with the DEP requirements after that. After discussion, the Board agreed with
Glen H rningtonxs recommendation-to continue with the current requirements for the next two years.
. MEMA Emergency Preparedness Training Workshops -FYI
Glen Harrington reported that additional training workshops can be made available by the MEMA
Training Department. They will be conducting gaining needs assessments on a quarterly basis, and
ask that the BOH provide information regarding training requirements for Mashpee. If enough people
sign up, training classes could be set up locally. Most classes are now held in Framingham. Glen
Harrington asked that any Board members who are'interested sign up as soon as possible.
