He stated their products are all a result of direct <br /> programming needs and include a variety of architectural style <br /> (contemporary, traditional, and victorian) . <br /> He spoke to the differences between design and general <br /> practice firms . He stated there are two designers in his firm, <br /> himself and an interior designer, everyone else has a strong <br /> background/expertise in technical capabilities, construction <br /> technology, and in the preparation of contract documents. <br /> Mr. Therrien addressed the existing library building stating <br /> it had been constructed in 1987 and that there had been a joint <br /> effort with the community at that time to procure funding from <br /> the state. At the time, the estimated cost of the building was <br /> $439, 000 . 00; and was delivered at $458, 000 . 00 . Mr. Therrien then. <br /> made references to a visual chart demonstrating the firm' s <br /> estimates vs. contract reality, noting the firm always comes in <br /> within five (5W) percent of cost projections . He noted the <br /> amount of available funds at the time, stating this was a major <br /> consideration when preparing the original design for the <br /> building. He also showed original construction drawings and <br /> floor plans used for the building. <br /> Mr. Therrien demonstrated how the existing building was <br /> designed to accommodate expansions to the front and rear. He <br /> stated the building was deliberately sited with the intent of <br /> future expansion on the primary level and that the interior <br /> structure of the building had been planned for a second story. <br /> Mr. Therrien addressed concerns regarding the original <br /> heating system, explaining it was an economical system dictated <br /> by the funds available at the time. <br /> Past Projects <br /> Mr. Therrien then presented visuals for the following former <br /> projects: <br /> West Bridgewater, west Bridgewater, MA-Mr: Therrien pointed <br /> out similar conceptual designs between this and the Mashpee <br /> Library building. He explained how <br /> certain acoustic issues had been addressed, and made references <br /> to the public meeting area, the location of the rest rooms, and <br /> building security features. <br /> Snow Library, Orleans, MA-Mr. Therrien commented upon the <br /> architectural style of this building. He noted the building had <br /> been delivered within cost and was an example of efficient and <br /> effective use of space.
