Mr. Therrien stated he has no interest .in expanding his firm in
order to commit to more projects. He stated the current projects
include a police station, church, and senior center with a bid
for an Elk' s Lodge. This is the time for his firm to begin
looking for new projects in terms of phase; they do have library
experience, and they have served the Mashpee community in the
past and are familiar with the current building.
Public Presentations
Mr. Therrien stated given the opportunity, he would be
available for all presentations necessary to complete the
project. He stated he would not recommend that he present to
the Town, but rather that the Building Committee be versed in
communicating directly with the community as an issue of trust.
He said he would be available, as , backup, to address any issue (s)
the Committee chose.
Future. Expansion
Mr. Therrien stated expansion of the Mashpee project had
been anticipated from the onset and that the building had been
sited with this consideration in mind. He stated his firm is
very capable of handling this project and that seventy percent of
all their work is that of additions/renovations.
Mr. Therrien concluded at this point, 12 : 55 p.m. At which
time Mr. whritenour thanked him for delivering such a thorough
presentation; followed by an invitation to Committee Members to
express any questions/comments.
Ed DeFoe asked for further discussion on comments made
regarding whether or not to take advantage of the use of a
library consultant. He made reference to how determinations
would be made in calculating the size of the building in order to
meet projected populations; asking if the firm is capable of
providing in-house projections.
Mr. Therrien responded the role of the Committee would be to
identify the program needs; there is currently data available
through the state Board of Library Commissions regarding required
square footage per volume; as well as established standards of
volumes based upon population; and established guidelines
regarding which services should be provided based upon
population. He suggested his firm work closely with the Trustees
and Director in order to provide a recommendation based upon the
available guidelines and formulas being accepted by the state
Board of Library Commissioners. He also stated he would be
prepared to review/explore grant information and requirements.
Mr. Therrien cautioned that in some cases a library
consultant may enhance the program being presented, which in turn
adds to the costs of the project, and which would be recognized
by the state Board of Library Commissioners.
