Naming lights Discussion
Sheldon Gilbert stated that if the underlying assurnpbon is that naming rights is an enticement for
large donors to the new library project, then we reed to be identifying some options for this
possibility. The two main sections Sheldon identified as naming rights opportunities were the
Children's Library, and the Events loam. Sheldon asked far comments, from the committee as to
other possible naming rights options as well as dollar amounts that should be attached to these
options.
Torn O'Neill stated that receipt of a state grant would be very helpful in terms of encouraging
people to commit to a large donation to the library project. There are still a lot of people who
have the perception that the new library is not yet a flan deal. Tom's feeling is that these large
donations are going to carne from direct, one-on-one rapport with individuals. His
recommendation would be to decide on some naming rights options, decide on the dollar
amounts to be assigned, and then go to Town Wall for their stamp of approval. Torn stated that if
any of the grants applied for should core through soon, it would be a great boost to the
fundraising efforts-directed toward large donors.
Dave Burton suggested that identifying additbonal naming rights opportunities other than the
Children's Library and the Events Room, i.e.#the F eferen&e area and many others, should boost
the interest of individuals who are potential large donors.
7.
